Happy Tuesday MTG peeps,
Yep - Tuesday 15th April - when most folks would expect a nice mild 15 ºC (~60 ºF) spring day. That was the case yesterday - but today it seems we are returning to winter. Right now in Barrie it is below freezing, there's a blizzard, and a lot of kids are 'enjoying' a snow day. From our office window here in Barrie, we can't quite see the lovely lake front due to the white cr@p but at least we can pretend its nice out while we scroll on through a handful of new Journey into Nyx spoilers and previews. We'll admit that this latest Magic: the Gathering set is delivering a number of new cards we are excited to build with and already have a number of cards on our wish list we want to get from MTG Mint Card. Anywhoos - let's get on with the show and see whats new -
~
Dictate of Heliod, 3WW
Enchantment, Rare
Flash
Creatures you control get +2/+2.
We do love our anthem effects but this a titch too expensive to impact standard. We can see some good in limited or commander though. Also liking the flash ability after your opponent declares attackers or perhaps saving your dudes after they drop a Bile Blight to wipe your field of 2/2 tokens.
~
Aegis of the Gods, 1W
Enchantment Creature - Human Soldier, Rare
You have hexproof.
2/2
It's Leyline of Sanctity / Ivory Mask on legs. Not quite the typical hate bear with a 2/2 body but most definitely a card that will make its way into a number of sideboards.
~
Battlefield Thaumaturge, 1U
Creature - Human Wizard, Rare
Each instant and sorcery spell you cast costs 1 less to cast for each creature it targets.
Heroic - Whenever you cast a spell that targets Battlefield Thaumaturge, Battlefield Thaumaturge gains hexproof until end of turn.
2/1
DANG - Gridlock, Glimpse the Sun God, Curse of the Swine and those 'strive' ability cards. All those 'X' costed instants 'n' sorceries that target.
~
Daring Thief, 2U
Creature - Human Rogue, Rare
Inspired - Whenever Daring Thief becomes untapped, you may exchange control of target nonland permanent you control and target permanent an opponent controls that shares a card type with it.
2/3
Pretty nifty - we see more applications outside of standard for this card.
~
Bearer of the Heavens, 7R
Creature - Giant, Rare
When Bearer of the Heavens dies, destroy all permanents at the beginning of the next end step.
To hold the heavens from the earth is no curse, but a titanic responsibility.
10/10
Nice card in Commander we think. There are a number of strategies to investigate with the simplest one being Boros Charm to give your dudes indestructible while decimating your opponents side of the game table.
Other cards up today on the MTG Realm Spoiler list are Eidolon of Rhetoric and our new fav uncommon from this set - Nyx-Fleece Ram.
