Magic 2012 Announced

Happy Tuesday MTG peeps,

As we had indicated in yesterday's post about the new Mirrodin Besieged sword, we are following up now with you about Wizard's announcement on the release of the Magic 2012 core set, due out in July, 2011.

Magic the Gathering Core Sets are base sets of cards around which some tournaments revolve. Cards from expansion sets rotate in and out of these base set of cards. The most recent edition contains 249 cards. The core set is intended to teach new players the game of Magic the Gathering without cards which may be confusing. No official storyline is used in core sets. A card's flavor text may be from any other expansion. Core Sets used to be a collection of previous reprints but Wizards had since M10 added quite a lot of excitement in the mix by providing new, never seen before cards. As of Magic 2011, only two cards will have been in every Core Set - Giant Growth and Giant Spider.

Anywhoos, to the announcement now . . . and some new art for Chandra. Word on the forums is that new card art for the five 'di rigeur' Planeswalkers would be most welcome but this is something which may or may not happen. One should also not expect the 'Ally' creature sub-type in the set with the tag-line 'Gather Your Allies'.
