~
Good Day peeps, We hope you are having (or had) a great Holiday break. We are jumping in once more to blog land to get one more post off before year's end. We wish to let you all know that we are still very much alive (yes we have not posted for a week), and want to catch up with any new Magic the Gathering news, spoilers and rumours.
As for news, there is none.
As for spoilers, specifically the Worldwake or Rise of the Eldrazi, there is none either.
That being said, there was a bit of excitement on the forums just the other day where someone claimed to have a uncut sheet of foil Rise of the Eldrazi cards (the next set after Worldwake), but he was never heard from again . . . we strongly suspect WoTC corporate ninjas were involved in his disapearence.
As there really is nothing new to yatter about, we will turn our attention to speculation about what the next set release will hold for us. We realise that Worldwake is not due out for about a month from now, but we really are dying in anticipation for any rumours or spoilers.
You may recall this POST in November when we had yattered about the Rise of the Eldrazi announcement. In this post, we also spoke about the upocmming novel 'Zendikar: In the Teeth of Akoum' by Robert B. Wintermute. We thought it prudent to go over the plot summary to sift through any clues as to what we may expect in Worldwake - let's have a look again . .
From : Zendikar: In the Teeth of Akoum: A Magic: The Gathering Set Novel by Robert B. Wintermute
Lurking in the space between the aether and the physical plane, there is a great evil waiting to emerge.
Zendikar is a land of danger and adventure, a world of deadly risks and priceless rewards. It is also a prison to one of the most deadly species known to the Multiverse: the dreaded Eldrazi.
When our story opens, part of the mystical containment spell that has kept the Eldrazi captive for millennia has been breached. The brood lineage, the Eldrazi minions, have been released and are poring over the plane, devouring everything in their path, but the swath they cut across the land is nothing next to the destruction that the still-imprisoned Eldrazi Titans will wreck once released.
Nissa Revane, a planeswalker and proud elf warrior of the Jorga Nation, is witness to what the brood lineage can do. She sees that they pose a bigger problem than most suppose. Sorin, an ancient vampire planeswalker, knows this as well as anyone because he was among the original jailers of the ancient scourge. He has returned to Zendikar to make sure the Titans do not escape. They both want the Eldarzi threat extinguished but each has their own agenda. Nissa wants the Eldrazi off her plane entirely. Sorin wants to put the lock back on their cell. And there are still others who want the Titans to escape.
Together they set out across the land on search of the Eye of Ugin, the source of the Eldrazi uprising, where they will face what could be their final challenge. Will the Eldrazi escape to menace the Multiverse once again?

What catches our attention in the above is the reference to the Eye of Ugin. This name was contained within the flavour text of Ghostfire, a Futuresight uncommon.
Ghostfire, 2Instant, Common
Ghostfire is colorless.
Ghostfire deals 3 damage to target creature or player.
'Only those gifted with the eye of Ugin, the spirit dragon, can see his fiery breath.'
There had been quite a rumour chatter recently about colourless spells - not sure what to make of it but perhaps there is a clue here in Ghostfire.
Also - something else of interest in the above plot summary is the connection of the sage Anowon (perhaps a legendary creature we can expect in Worldwake?). Chandra and Sorin are said to hook up with Anowon and search for the Eye of Ugin. Once they reach the eye, they bump into none other than Sarkhan Vol. We already have several mentions in the flavour text of Anowon in some Zendikar cards . . .
Carnage Altar
"In these bloodstains I will find the fingerprints of our oppressors."
—Anowon, the Ruin Sage
Hedron Scrabbler
"I don't care when the hedrons awoke. Why is the question that really matters."
—Anowon, the Ruin Sage
Anywhoos - not sure if we had a point here other than just look at the existing cards and storyline to extrapolate a half-decent speculation. Here is our speculation as to what Anowon would be should it see print in Worldwake . . . (adjusted - based on the two commentators feedback and the Journey to the Eye webcomics)
Anowon, the Ruin Sage, 1 Legendary Creature - Vampire Shaman, Rare
Intimidate (This creature can't be blocked except by artifact creatures and/or creatures that share a color with it.)
When Anowon, the Ruin Sage enters the battlefield, draw a card.2/2
Anyways - here's hoping.
Have a great New Year's Eve everyone.
