Worldwake Spoiler 12-22

~
Good Day Peeps,
Not much happening for Magic the Gathering Worldwake spoilers at the moment but we do have some Worldwake art for you to preview, so sit back and enjoy. Official previews will begin at Wizards on 1/18/2009, with prereleases and release events / parties on 1/30/2009 and 2/05/2009 respectively.

Remember that excellent 'n' awesome Planechase spoiler Wizards ran last week (post HERE) ? Well here is some artwork with Jace the Mindsculptor with a bit of background - very obviously a Zendikar landscape.

In addition to this, we have two other interesting Worldwake art pieces for you - The one of the left is unmistakeably a vampire while the one on the right certainly looks very demon-like to us.

There is also another interesting image Wizards had used as a water-mark for their Worldwake Pre-Order Sheet. We would love to think that this Angel is the new 'n' awesome Worldwake Admonition Angel.

And finally, one thing we look very forward to is getting to the game store and getting some dueling going with new intropacks. Here is the skinny as to the theme of the new Worldwake IntroPacks (sorry about the image quality).

If you wanted to download this document in pdf format, head on over to Scribd, where we keep most of our MTG docs.

Stay tuned for more MTG news, spoilers and opinions over your Christmas Holidays.

Worldwake Review - Jace

~
We have to hand it to Wizards that the slow Jace, the Mind Sculptor puzzle spoiler of the Worldwake Planeswalker Chase was brilliant. Fans were definitely on the edge of their seats in nail-biting anticipation. If we have any suggestions at all, it would be to have the last puzzle piece be the part which incorporates most of the loyalty abilities of the Planeswalker. As it stood, this particular piece (with the postivie / negative abilities) was spoiled in Toronto, a full three hours ahead of the last piece in California. The MTG fan community pretty much knew the full card by the time the last piece was picked up.

As it stands, we feel it à propos to follow up yesterday's excitement with a short post dissecting the new Jace and it's potential in our world of casual standard-environment Magic the Gathering. Before we get into it, a quick review of this Worldwake card for reference.

Jace, the Mind Sculptor - 2
Planeswalker - Jace

[+2] : Look at the top card of target player's library. You may put that card on the bottom of that player's library.
[0] : Draw three cards, then put two cards from your hand on top of your library in any order.
[-1] : Return target creature to its owner's hand.
[-12] : Exile all cards from target player's library, then that player shuffles his or her hand into his or her library.

The first ability is +2 which in our opinion is decent. This will put up the loyality counters to 5 on turn one giving Jace some more body with withstand some red burn (read: Lightning Bolt) if you happen not to have a blocker up yet. This first ability is sweet. Of course this would have been even more nasty if the Morningtide Banneret cycle was still in standard. This ability first appeared on two cards in Future Sight and was properly called Fateseal. Altough this ability is too random to be effective, if luck is on your side, it can provide a measure of control over your opponent or be downright hazardous to them should the planets align.

The second ability is pegged at 0 which esentially provides a free Brainstorm (Fifth Eiditon card). [Edit - we are retarded - please see Matt's comment - This means that one can NOT activate both abilities on the same turn.] This Ponder like abilitiy allows one to draw three cards which is never a bad thing in a format with fetchlands and cascade spells. One of the drawbacks to cascade to date was the randomness of it - not knowing what one was going to flip. This Brainstorm ability will allow one to decide whether or not to play that cascade spell in your hand and be able to know what cascaded spell will turn up. More control on cascade is just awesome in our opinion. We suggest that you consider the absolutely beautiful synergy this ability has with Enigma Sphinx. Whenever the Sphinx goes for that dirt nap in your graveyard, rest assured that Jace's second ability will find the Sphinx again next turn third from the top and set you up to cascade again. We are currently thinking about using Jace with Lorescale Coatl and Sages of the Anima for a big snake beater or flooding our side of the board with critters.

The third ability is a -1 Unsummon. This ability is simply amazing. One can either teporarily remove an opponent's board threat or can set up some shenanigans with 'comes into play' cards. Players contemplating land destuction decks are now thinking about using this new Jace with Mold Shambler, Acidic Slime or Goblin Ruinblaster. There is a vast stable of cards which one may employ with this third ability; Kor Sanctifiers, Magister Sphinx, Meddling Mage, Parasitic Strix, or even just Zendikar Allies.

Now for the fourth ability. If this goes off, you are assured a game win. This ability essentially mills your opponent to within an hair's-breadth of their last and final move before they loose. [Edit: Please don't use the Lord - the 'milled' cards are exiled, not heading to the graveyard -Hopefully at this moment, you have a Lord of Extinction either on board or waiting in your hand to squash for the win]

This card will be starting off in the MTG Singles market at $15 but we are certain it will climb much higher as more the Worldwake gets spoiled / previewed. If you are Christmas shopping for a blue / control players, we are certain they will be most appreciative of this gift.

Worldwake Spoiler 5

~
Today we have some Worldwake Booster back images and have also now arrived in the final stretch of the slow roll Worldwake Planeswalker spoiler. Jace, the Mind Sculptor has been dissected into 8 puzzle pieces and fired off to remote Game stores (hosting Wizards Play Network events). Today, Wizards revealed the final two co-ordinates . . .

Worldwake Planeswalker Chase
No. 7 : 43.659293 Lat, -79.382175 Long
No. 8 : 33.976243 Lat, -117.464489 Long

No. 7 : 401 Games, Toronto, Canada - just about an hour south of me !
No. 8 : GMI Games and Collectibles - Riverside, CA, USA

With the Winter Olypic flame touring through downtown Toronto, our new local hero, Bitey, was able to head into 401 games and snap a pic of the card piece just shortly after 11:00 am today . . . Many thanks to Bitey. Earlier, I had called Barclay Jewlers next door, and altough he was very polite, he really was unsympathetic and unhelpful in my mission to get someone over to pick up the Jace piece. Dang ! A zero ability - that is not only new but insanely broken ! This basically gives you a free Brainstorm each turn.

Late Update - Around 7:00 PM or so (eastern standard time), an unknown fella by the name of Justin Phillips, just 15 minutes down the road from the store walked in to claim the final Jace piece. Thanks to Justin and GMI Games for getting this all together - thankfully it was not the positive / negative ability side as this would have certainly felt like the longest day of MTG spoiler, like evar.

What do we have (many thanks to Trick over at ManaNation for his photoshoppery skills to piece this blue Frankenstien together) . . . why - one EPIC Planeswalker - that's what -

{3}

w0w ! - just awesome. We think the folks who had been complaining about the decay of blue are most likely smiling now . . . if not, there really is no pleasing them we guess. Expect this card to start off selling for about $40, and who knows after that.

~
Now - onto the next Worlwake spoiler goodness . . . Worldwake Booster Pack images.

We have a trio of booster pack images from Wizards today. For the first pack we have an unknown Angel which was recently featured on some Ultra-Pro product. The second pack we have the new Worldwake hotness, Jace, the Mind Sculptor. As for the third pack, this features a Vampire - this art was provided on the back of some token cards earlier and it appears she is accompanied by a Mindless Null.

~
Stay tuned for more Worldwake awesomness.

Worldwake spoiler 4

~
Happy Wednesday to all. There is a massive multiplicity of Magic the Gathering Worldwake spoilers to get through today. We have day 3 of what is turning out to be a very entertaining slow spoiling of Jace, the Mind Sculptor. We have an image for the Worldwake Fat Pack. In addition to these, we also have a slew of Ultra-Pro Worldwake product images. Dang - that is a lot so let's get to it . . .

~

First off - Wizards has provided the next locations in the Worldwake Planeswalker Chase - this is where we are provided UTM co-ordinates of a WPN / gaming store where a card piece had been sent. There are eight pieces to said puzzle card and the reveal has been rather enjoyable so far - perhaps due to MaRo not be directly involved and inserting irritating Goblin Chaos buttons.

The locations my Ladies and Gentlemen -
No. 5 : 35.694685 Lat, 139.699069 Long
No. 6 : 28.046919 Lat, -82.393963 Long

Using our handy-dandy
Google Map applet we get the following locations -

No. 5 : Dream Kichijoji Store, Shinjuku district, Tokyo Japan
No. 6 : Armada Games, Tampa Florida

Soooo . . . by looking at the piece from the Japanese Amenity Dream store it now appears after much work by MTGS scientists, Japanese language specialists and spoiler nutters alike that our new Jace has 4 (FOUR) abilities instead of the usual three we have seen in Planeswalkers to date.

After some deliberation and translation help from some folks on MTG Sally, it appears that the second of four abilities is a minus one and provides for a 'Brainstorm' effect.

We also have the bottom right piece of Jace provided by Armada Games. This was a very handy piece indeed to have spoiled next as it contains not only this Planeswalker loyalty but also some epic reveal on text as well. This corner also provides some correction as to the ultimate (and anticipated) milling ability of Jace.

~
SPECULATION TIME - fill in the blanks on this patchwork monster of a Planeswalker - ->

Jace, the Mind Sculptor - 2
Planeswalker - Jace

[+2] : Look at the top card of target player's library. You may put that card on the bottom of that player's library.

[-1] : Draw three cards, then put two cards from your hand on top of your library in any order.

[-?] : Return target creature to its owner's hand.

[-?] : Exile the top half of target player's library, then that player shuffles his or her hand into his or her library.

{3}

~

Onto the Worldwake Fat Pack !
Details on this are at the Wizards Site HERE. You get the following goodness in every Fat Pack : the Worldwake Player's Guide (featuring a familiar Planeswalker on the cover), forty Zendikar basic lands (the kind without the text box), a second storage box, a sample chapter from Robert B. Wintermute's In the Teeth of Akoum, and eight Worldwake booster packs.

~
And lastly, we have a bunch of images from ManaNation hero Trick who had come by these Worldwake Ultra-Pro images by a kind individual who had emailed these to him.

Stay tuned tomorrow when we have a look at the next Jace puzzle pieces and some images from spoiled Worldwake Booster Packs.

Worldwake Spoiler 3

~
Yesterday (this POST), we had provided you the first two pieces of that new Worldwake slow spoiler for Jace, the Mind Sculptor. Wizards is going to do with Jace, the Mind Sculptor from - this involved leaving pieces of this card at eight different locations. Today WoTC revealed the next two of eight card pieces at two separate directed to Wizards Play Network (WPN) game store locations.

Here are the new coordinates :
No. 3 : 47.784330 Lat, -122.344838 Long
No. 4 : -33.883923 Lat, 151.202688 Long

No. 3 : Good Games City
Level 1, 857 George St., Sydney
Phone 9281-1760
www.goodgames.com.au

No. 4 :
EDIT ! : NOT - Fantastic Games
but World of Collections around the corner

Fellow Magic the Gathering Blogger WrongWayGoBack just so happens to live / work about 10 blocks away from Good Games and made tracks over there only to find the store absolutely packed but no-one had yet clued in that a Jace piece was on site. He had then snapped a pic and shared it on his Twitter.

Yep - You now have the casting cost for Jace, the Mind Sculptor : 2

As for piece number 4 our blogging buddy Reinhart from GatheringMagic.com as well as a few others were able to track down the correct store and capture this image for us . . . Honestly Wizards ! Is it too difficult to get someone to properly cut this shizzle with and exacto knife or an electric jig-saw? This looks like a Mindless Null got romantic with it.

Here is the puzzle completed to date so far . .

~

Fellow MTG blogger MtGColorPie had some interesting news about a Zendikar Scoreboard Lifecounter. Details from Wizards may be found here.

Assembly instructions Wizards had provided . . .

First, punch out all of the pieces. You should have the main "body" piece, the "foot" piece, and the four "wheel" pieces as shown to the left.

Next, fold the body piece along both score lines in the middle, so that it looks like book covers with a spine.

Then fold each wheel piece over as shown, with the white part on the inside. Push the tab through the hole. Each wheel should look something like the picture directly to the left.

Push the tabs on the wheels through the circular holes in the body. The small wheels go above the large ones, and the black ones go to the right of the blue ones.

Fold the foot in half on the score line. Then, slide it onto the bottom of the body.

Congratulations! You have just completed assembling the Magic Zendikar Scoreboard Lifecounter.

With this lifecounter, you can track the life of both you and your opponent, and they can read it from their side of the table too!

Also, the foot can be stored between the wheels, allowing the scoreboard to be kept in a standard deckbox.

Worldwake Spoiler 2

~
Happy Monday folks. While it may be goblin week over at Wizards of the Coast, it is always spoiler season here at MTG Realm where we scour 'teh internets' for Magic the Gathering spoiler goodness.

You may recall this previous POST where we had told you of the new slow spoiler Wizards was going to do with Jace - this involved leaving pieces of this card at eight different locations. Today WoTC revealed the puzzle template as well as the first two of eight card pieces at two separate Wizards Play Network (WPN) locations. Here are the coordinates:

> No. 1 : 30.324743 Lat, -97.743041 Long
> No. 2 : 50.848563 Lat, 4.365096 Long

Use the following Google Map applet at to figure out where these locations are. A simple google search will find you the most likely hobby / games shop shop in the hood. Alternatively, use the Wizards locator to identify the store. After this, eMail a friend you may have down there and tell 'em to get their butts to the location to check out the clue.

The puzzle template was provided for the pieces. Not surprisinly, the template is a Planeswalker symbol, neatly and strategically divided up into eight sections so as not to divulge too much information for the spoiler nutters as we move through this slow rolling Jace Planeswalker reveal.

The first location, provided from Pat's Games in Austin, Texas gave us the little corner and proved that yes, indeed, the card is a Jace.

The second location provided is identified as l'Outpost Bruxelles at Rue de la Tribune 1-13 Brussels, Belgium which had this card piece electronically placed on their store bulletin board.

Planeswalker Jace, MR
+2 : Look at the top card of target player's library.
(you may put that card on the bottom of that player's library ?)

ManaNation legend Trick was kind enough to lend a few moments of his time and photoshoppery skills to give everyone an idea as to where we stood with the overall puzzle development . . .

~

In MaRo's article today, we also were given another (annoying) slow rolling spoier for 'Bazaar Trader'.

~

Things we may assume from MaRo's mad goblin week ramblings and the card itself . . .
1. As it is a Goblin, effect isn't likely permanent, and is most likely random.
2. The goblin in the card art pointing to a larger creature in the art, while indicating with his three fingers, demanding a 3 for 1 exchange for this monster of a thing.
3. Oh and the critter of course is doing business as a Trader while at a bazaar.

Bazaar Trader, 1R
Creature - Goblin, Rare

Other similarily named cards from the storied MTG past include but are not limited to . . . Bazaar of Baghdad, Bazaar of Wonders, Magus of the Bazaar, Mercadian Bazaar, Dwarven Trader, Merfolk Traders

~

Finally, since it is Goblin week, MaRo gave us this mess for our imaginations to work on for what will happen after Worldwake in the Rise of the Eldrazi set.

Goblin of the Goblins is going to be a goblin built around the Goblin goblins, all of which have no goblin and are goblin. For example, there are two Goblins at goblin, the goblin of which is 7/7. All of the Goblins have a new goblin called goblin. Goblins with goblin have a goblin; whenever a goblin with goblin goblins, the goblin goblin must goblin that many goblins. The Goblins are very goblin but there are goblins that can create 0/1 goblins called Goblin Goblin that can be goblin to goblin one goblin goblin to your goblin goblin and will help you be able to goblin the Goblins. In addition, the goblin has a new goblin called goblin goblin. You may spend goblin on goblin with goblin goblin to improve their goblins and goblins. This Limited goblin is much goblin than the one in Goblin.

MTGS scientists are now working on this cryptic message and replacing all the manky goblin nonsense with more appropriate words. One speculation from SirBruce has this

(Rise) of the (Eldrazi) is going to be a (set) built around the (Eldrazi) (Titans), all of which have no (cost) and are (colorless). For example, there are two (Titans) at (0), the (smaller/larger) of which is 7/7. All of the (Titans) have a new (ability) called (bloodprice). (Creatures) with (bloodprice) have a (drawback); whenever a (creature) with (bloodprice) (attacks), the (contolling) (player) must (sacrifice) that many (creatures). The (Titans) are very (costly) but there are (cards) that can create 0/1 (tokens) called (Titan) (Fodder) that can be (sacrificed) to (add) one (colorless) (mana) to your (mana) (pool) and will help you be able to (feed) the (Titans). In addition, the (set) has a new (keyword) called (channel) (essence). You may spend (life) on (creatures) with (channel) (essence) to improve their (power) and (toughness). This Limited (Channel) is much (cooler) than the one in (Alpha).

Anywhoos - our heads hurt from this and we'll take a break but will be back tomorrow with new developments.

Zendikar Slow Cooker 2

~
Hey y'all, like the name on the post suggests (slow cooker), we have a bunch of Zendikar slow spoilers in various stages of undress . . . let's get to 'em . . .

First off, we now have the full Sorin Markov Planeswalker card, and it was not quite what we expected here at MTG Realm.

Sorin Markov, 3
Planeswalker - Sorin, Mythic Rare
+2 Sorin Markov deals 2 damage to target creature or player and you gain 2 life.
-3 Target Opponent's life total becomes 10.
-7 You control target player's next turn.

We really thought that the second ability would have held something quite different but we are still quite OK with it.

Next up, his excellency Evan Erwin over at the Magic Show released part two of Warren Instigator and so far, this card seems incredible.

Warren Instigator,
Creature - Goblin Beserker, Mythic Rare
Doubble Strike, ??
?/?

There is still a LOT of space left on the text portion to fill with kick-butt abilities. We personally are hoping for this dude to have haste. We're also hoping for some serious Landfall mechanic love here - hasty tokens please !

Next up is part two of Vampire Nighthawk from the very mobile Trick over at ManaNation. (Memo to Trick - vlogging and driving is an inherently dangerous activity - please be careful) :-)

Vampire Nighthawk, 1
Creature - Vampire Shaman, Uncommon
Flying
Deathtouch
?/?

A flying dude with flying AND deathtouch (for 3)?! - Yes please - I don't really care if this guy is a 1/1 - this card not only equates to potential hits to your opponent's face but also provides removal.

Enfin, un ange légendaire mythique à partir de Magic Ville . . . check it out !

Iona, Shield of Emeria 6
Legendary Creature - Angel, Mythic Rare
Flying
?
?/

Voici ce que je n'espère . . .6/6 vol, vigilance, à chaque fois qu'un terrain arrive en jeu sous votre contrôle les créatures blanches que vous contrôlez gagnent +1/+1 et la protection contre le noir jusqu'à la fin du tour - perhaps too much to ask for maybe (?)

~

Also - some interesting pieces of information from Star City goon Jeff Phillips who had kidnapped and interogated WoTC staffer Mark Purvis recently at GenCon Indy 2009.

* “In Zendikar, the land is dangerous and unpredictable.”
* “The people of Zendikar are all well-equipped."
* “Zendikar is the home world of the Kor. All previous appearances by them, they were abducted against their will.”
* The large, floating polyhedron-shaped objects are “hedrons, which are the remnants of an ancient civilization. Their purpose is unknown to the current inhabitants of Zendikar.”
* “Vampires are also native to Zendikar. They have a feel very reminiscent of Native Americans, with war paints and a very tribal feel.”
Sorin is not native to Zendikar.
* “Elves and Goblins are native to Zendikar, but they have an altered behavior. It’s a fresh twist.”
* “Rocktraps: they appear to be rocks, but are actually creatures.”
* “Lands are definitely atypical.”
* “Gravity is a bit off”
* "flying is a major sub theme"

Stay tuned for more MTG spoiler goodness . . .
