Good Day MTG peeps and happy Monday. We hope everyone in the listening area had a great Canada Day or 4th of July if you are south of our border. Things are moving rather quickly to close in the Magic 2011 core set spoilers and previews. We recommend you stay near your internet machine and tune in to MTG Realm to get the latest 'n' greatest. Don't forget to check our our text Spoiler List and Visual Spoiler page for regular updates.Right off the base, it appears that (no surprise at all) - Day of Judgment is being reprinted. Another totally unconfirmed rumour that is floating around the interweb right now is a new Leviathan. Again, we caution you - total rumour right now but we really, really hope its true. One hint is the art from the icon for Wizard's Week Two preview. There is a report that this beast reads like this . . .
Stormtide Leviathan, 5
8/8
Islandwalk
All lands are Islands in addition to their original type.
Creatures without flying or islandwalk can't attack.
Rare
Mass Polymorph, 5
Sorcery, Rare
Exile all creatures you control, then reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal that many creature cards. Put all creature cards revealed this way onto the battlefield and shuffle the rest into your library.
Just like the very popular Polymorph but a bit more tricky to use and build around. First a bit expensive and the efficiency of cheating fatties onto the table is directly linked to the number you just exiled. We are undecided on this yet until we see this played.
Leyline of the Void, 2
Enchantment, Rare
If Leyline of the Void is in your opening hand, you may begin the game with it on the battlefield.
If a card would be put into an opponent's graveyard from anywhere, exile it instead.
Meh. We have not seen a whole lot of dredge or standard casual decks that rely on recursion to make this popular in our local metagame.
Destructive Force, 5
Sorcery, Rare
Each player sacrifices five lands.
Destructive force deals 5 damage to each creature.
Awesome spell is awesome. This is Wildfire version 2.0 - Resets your board for only seven mana - pings critters for 5, killing off most everything below fatty grade and loosing five lands turns back the ramp clock. We suggest you plan ahead for this and pack pro-red creatures in your sideboard. You could also consider putting a few of those Zendikon land auras in your sideboard as well.
Mystifying Maze
Land, Rare
: Add 1 to your mana pool
4, : Exile target attacking creature an opponent controls. At the beginning of the next end step, return it to the battlefield tapped under its owner's control.
Great card - this is being compared to Kor Haven and Maze of Ith on the forums. This is essentially colourless spot removal with options for your game. Sure the beast hits the board again but this will prevent that critter's damage for the moment to give you some time to develop an answer. This also means that your opponent is given time to answer your counter threat. One nice aspect about this card is that one would be able to target another threat if you choose the greater of two evils as it were. Anywhoos - looks like everyone can now incorporate a bit of control with their game now. Just watch out for Tectonic Edge (or make sure you have already picked up a deckset by the time M11 is released).
Sword of Vengeance, 3
Artifact - Equipment, Rare
Equipped creature gets +2/+0 and has first strike, vigilance, trample and haste.
Equip 3
Apparently not fake as we may have suggested in our earlier post. We are rather excited about this card and are evaluating it for use with Stoneforge Mystic to tutor it out and then dropping it on the table for one less mana. We also love this nod to Akroma.
Triskelion, 6
Artifact Creature - Construct Rare
Triskelion enters the battlefield with three +1/+1 counters on it.
Remove a +1/+1 counter from Triskelion: Triskelion deals 1 damage to target creature or player.
1/1
Sorry - no M11 image yet. This is a well loved reprint from Mirrodin and some consider this an 'auto-inclusion' in artifact creature decks. Seems a bit expensive in today's metagame however. We suggest you consider equipping this with Basilisk Collar for deadly pings and perhaps Cradle of Vitality to put counters right back on Triskelion for a lovely rinse and repeat effect.
That's it for now, stay tuned for more new card goodness to pimp your game. Don't forget to check out MTG Mint Card for Chinese M11 singles which are available for pre-order.
