Happy Thursday MTG peeps,
You may recall from our recent post from two weeks ago (HERE) we yattered about Sheldon Menery (a Magic the Gathering Level 5 DCI judge and Pro-Tour veteran) who had something of interest he wrote on his Facebook page; "if you love EDH, tune into magicthegathering.com on 2 December for an exciting announcement."
Well today, the announcement did come down and players who love that pile of 100 cards are indeed very excited. Many Elder Dragon Highlander players on the game forums have been speculating the heck outta this and indeed many did guess correctly (as did we in our post) that Wizards of the Coast would develop new products for this format. Learn more about the format over at MTG : Commander, link here.
Today, both Aaron Forsythe in his feature article as well as Monty Ashley in Magic Arcana delivered the news . . .
Essentially, Magic: The Gathering Commander is to be composed of five different 100-card decks, with no card other than basic lands appearing more than once per deck. There are be a total of 51 new Magic the Gathering cards distributed across these five new decks, and each deck will have 3 foil oversized versions of legends that also appear as regular cards in the deck. One may now make tracks to your local gaming store and purchase one (or more) of these decks and be able to play it out of the box.
One such new card will be the uncommon sorcery, Death By Dragons.
Death By Dragons 4
Sorcery, Uncommon
Each player other than target player puts a 5/5 red Dragon creature token with flying onto the battlefield.
Suddenly, Eldo felt very alone.

We've been informed that there will be three 'wedge colours' (allied colour pair and their shared colour enemy) decks Magic: The Gathering Commander decks corresponding new commanders.
Karador is one of the new generals spoiled / previewed today and being released as part of the new MTG-Commander product next year.
Karador, Ghost Chieftain 5
Legendary Creature - Centaur Spirit, MythicRare
Karador, Ghost Chieftain costs 1 less to cast for each creature card in your graveyard.
During each of your turns, you may cast one creature card from your graveyard.
"Death tried to uncrown me. But now I return, king of a greater realm."

Finally, we have to say that we were happy to see that Wizards moved forward with this offering as they did - not stepping hard on sensitive toes while delivering a product to market. Kudos to WoTC for giving the nod to Sheldon Menery and the other EDH council of elders.

I wrote this on twitter but seems like a good discussion point.
Why does WotC announce it so far in advance? seems like these would be good christmas gifts.
