Happy Wednesday MTG peeps,
We hope all our fellow Canadians had a pleasant Canada Day yesterday, and that our American cousins to the south will be having an awesome 4th of July this coming weekend. We've got another lot of Magic: the Gathering cards to report on, more specifically, five additional Magic 2015 core set spoilers / previews. As the prerelease is next weekend (12th July) we suggest you talk to your local gaming store to see if they need you to pre-register for the event. Our local card shop, OMG! Games here in Barrie, Ontario is again running events all weekend long so all the players will have an opportunity to game no matter their schedule. We also suggest you start wrapping up you M15 pre-orders as well - MTG Mint Card has all the singles at a great price. Anywhoos - let's get on with today's installment -
~
The Chain Veil, 4
Legendary Artifact, Mythic Rare
At the beginning of your end step, if you didn't activate a loyalty ability of a planeswalker this turn, you lose 2 life.
4, T: For each planeswalker you control, you may activate one of its loyalty abilities once this turn as though none of its loyalty abilities had been activated this turn.
If you've been playing for a while, then you will know that the 'Superfriends' decklist has in the past shown strong results. Essentially the list is mostly planeswalkers with supporting cards and The Chain Veil here is a solid addition to new and existing lists.
~
Sliver Hivelord, WUBRG
Legendary Creature - Sliver, Mythic Rare
Sliver creatures you control have indestructible.
5/5
While all the Magic 2014 Slivers are still in standard before rotating out on 26 September, we suspect that a number of players will be running Slivers and most likely we will too.
~
Hornet Nest, 2G
Creature - Insect, Rare
Defender
Whenever Hornet Nest is dealt damage, put that many 1/1 green Insect creature tokens with flying and deathtouch onto the battlefield.
0/2
Yep - We love us some deadly wasps!
~
Kurkesh, Onakke Ancient, 2RR
Legendary Creature - Ogre Spirit, Rare
Whenever you activate an ability of an artifact, if it isn't a mana ability, you may pay R. If you do, copy that ability. You may choose new targets for the copy.
Yeah, we don't think this will see any standard play but if your game is modern, then start brewing decklists now as there is some fun to be had with a number of cards like Mimic Vat or Voltaic Key.
~
Stain the Mind, 4B
Sorcery, Rare
Convoke
Name a nonland card. Search target player's graveyard, hand, and library for any number of card's with that name and exile them. Then that player shuffles his or her library.
Decent control card here. While Slaughter Games is still in standard this won't really shine but as soon as it rotates, we expect to start seeing this show up in sideboards.
~
Grindclock, 2
Artifact, Rare
T: Put a charge counter on Grindclock.
T: Target player puts the top X cards of his or her library into his or her graveyard, where X is the number of charge counters on Grindclock.
Reprint meh. :|
