Guilds of Ravnica Spoiler 12-16

Yesterday there was a post with several Magic: the Gathering spoilers.  These Ravnica Allegiance leaks appears to be from the same WPN store which had previously posted Guilds of Ravnica spoilers, from their promo card mail out.

It has now been out for a day, so we may as well talk about it.  Looks like the XXYY cycle is continuing, some fun alternate wind condition, a favourite reprint and possibly a rather nice inclusion in competitive standard.  Have a look -

Card Catch-Up 4-22

~
A Happy Thursday to all.

We thought we would pull a Crazy Ivan - stop, clear the baffles here at MTG Realm and take stock of what we have missed. To this end, we're dropping a hodgepodge of Magic the Gathering miscellany on your monitors. Grab your goggles and let's go.

First Up -

For those air travelers and Planeswalkers inconvenienced by the recent eruption and subsequent spew of tons of volcanic ash from Iceland, your suffering and pain has a name - Eyjafjallajökull. And it so happens, that this card is for you . .

And here is a card errata:
"Should you correctly pronounce the name, you may play this card without paying its mana cost".

Next -

As you may know from our previous post (HERE), the Rise of the Eldrazi Release foil promo (release is this weekend!) is Lord of Shatterskull Pass. What you might not know is what the Game Day (scheduled May 22) are.

Here is the scoop from Wizards : All participants receive a Staggershock promo card while the top 8 players each receive an exclusive Deathless Angel full-art promo card. If your game sucked eggs that day, don't worry, there is still a chance of getting one of two Deathless Angel promo cards which are to be awarded as door prizes at your participating local gamery store.

~
And Next . . . some serious catching up with Friday Night Magic Promos -

FNM Promo - March, 2010

FNM Promo - March, 2010

Haste, Cascade (When you cast this spell, exile cards from the top of your library until you exile a nonland card that costs less. You may cast it without paying its mana cost. Put the exiled cards on the bottom in a random order.)
3 / 2

FNM Promo - May, 2010

Cloudpost
Land — Locus, Mirrodin Common
Cloudpost enters the battlefield tapped.
: Add 1 to your mana pool for each Locus on the battlefield.

~

And finally . . .

From waaaay back - actually in February at PTQ San Diego. A very special promo card was provided Wizards tournament organisers to members of that most awesome of television show, Robot Chicken, who had attended to sling cards.

~

OK folks, we think it's safe to go back in the pool now - be sure to drop by again real soon as we crack open some sealed Rise of the Eldrazi product.

Rise Eldrazi Promos

~
Good Day MTG peeps,

It appears that we have our Rise of the Eldrazi Pre-Release and Release Promos now in hand. We know that some players will or will not attend the pre-release or release event based almost entirely upon the foil alternate art promo card they get - hopefully these lovely cards will drive you to consider. Personally, we are placing much more love on the release card over the pre-release.

Anywhoos - the official word comes via these images - a promotional poster and on the back - an over-sized card of the Pre-release promo card. Let's have a quick look before we get to nutz 'n' bolts . .

Pre-Release foil Promo
(April 17 - 18)

Emrakul, the Aeons Torn, 15
Legendary Creature - Eldrazi, Mythic Rare
Emrakul, the Aeons Torn can't be countered.
When you cast Emrakul, take an extra turn after this one.
Flying, protection from colored spells, Annihilator 6
When Emrakul is put into a graveyard from anywhere, its owner shuffles his or her graveyard into his or her library.
15/15

Dang - this is one very large and dangerous potato masher - hopefully you win the game before your opponent is able to collect the mana to cast this. Alternatively, if you are the one with this sitting in your paws, hopefully you have the mana to cast this or a way to trick it out into play (Elvish Piper or the like).

~
Release foil Promo
(April 23 - 25)

Lord of Shatterskull Pass, 3

Creature - Minotaur Shaman, Rare
Level up 1{R}
[Level 1-5] (6/6)
[Level 6+] Whenever Lord of Shatterskull Pass attacks, it deals 6 damage to each creature defending player controls. (6/6)
3/3

Sorry guys, no art yet for this Minotaur with the exception of the very blurry one on the promotional. This appears to be a decent enough red critter with leveler which may even see some popular constructed play.

~
And lastly,
something which came out the gates a bit late yesterday and did not make it into the post (yes - we actually have a real job which does not allow us to blog and scour forums all day long).

Say hello to my little Enchantment !

Guard Duty,
Enchantment - Aura, Common
Enchant creature
Enchanted creature has defender.

With all the big-a$$ honking monsters in this set, this is guaranteed to see play along with pacifism and the likes to shut down big threats.

Instructions - place Guard Duty on nasty Eldrazi - most preferably with something that does not have reach or flying. Now make sure your dudes fly over this shut-down threat to deliver damage to your opponent - feel free to laugh when you do this. :-)

~ More Rise of the Eldrazi stuff coming your way so stay tuned.

FNM Promos Dec-Jan

~
We've just realised that we have not been keeping up with the FNM promos again - our apologies. Today we have December's and January's Promo for your hungry eyes . .

We last left off with the FNM promo for July to September, 2009 HERE. If you are like me and so happen to live near an urban center which say perhaps has a store that hosts Friday Night Magic events, then you must get fairly enthusiastic about the potential of winning a DCI Friday Night Magic promotional card. For the 4.1.1 on FNM, read this page at Wizards.

~
December's Friday Night Magic Promo is Sakura-Tribe Elder, a popular common from Champions of Kamigawa (waaay before we started to play Magic).

FNM December 2009 Promo
Creature — Snake Shaman, Champions of Kamigawa Common
Sacrifice Sakura-Tribe Elder, Search your library for a basic land card, put that card onto the battlefield tapped, then shuffle your library.

This is a decent card to have witht the new Zendikar tech hotness, Landfall. Unfortunately, as with many promotional cards provided by Wizards, this cannot be played in the Standard environment. If you are playing the Extended format, definitely give some serious consideration into slipping Sakura-Tribe Elder into your landfall build.

~
Januarly's Friday Night Magic Promo is Tidehollow Sculler, a great card from Shards of Alara which had seen some decent pro-tournament play.

FNM January 2010 Promo
Tidehollow Sculler,
Artifact Creature - Zombie, Eventide Uncommon
When Tidehollow Sculler enters the battlefield, target opponent reveals his or her hand and you choose a nonland card from it. Exile that card.
When Tidehollow Sculler leaves the battlefield, return the exiled card to its owner's hand.

We loved this card and still do. It provides excellent disruption early on inthe game to mess up your opponent's tempo by stealing an in-hand card from them. There had been more times than I can recall where we had removed a critical card (a mana-accelerator or mid-game bomb) to win the game thanks in good part to Tidehollow Sculler. This card was an awesome fit in our Eventide black-white deck featuring Deathbringer Liege, Divinity of Pride, Stillmoon Cavalier and the like. As this card is still legal in Standard format, this will still find a welcome spot in many casual decks.

That's it for now, until next post, Happy Gaming everyone.
