Dragon's Maze Champions

~
Happy Thursday MTG peeps,

We are heading into the Easter long weekend now and will not likely get a chance to play any Magic: the Gathering anytime over the weekend at OMG! Games in Barrie, Ontario as the clan is gathering for the annual family  tradition of eating and drinking with little room for anything else.  This also includes all the frivolities of our full-contact version of the Easter Egg Hunt.

Speaking of Eggs - We here at MTG Realm are thinking of putting together a Modern-format 'Eggs' build soon.  Here is an article from WotC Jacob featuring a budget 'eggs' strategy.  Eggs essentially is a powerful and consistent combo deck that wins the game on turn three or four by looping Second Sunrise and cheap artifacts that tap to draw cards.  We'll definitely need to pick up some missing cards from MTG Mint Card for this.
~

Anywhoos, today on the mothersite, Trick posted the video of last weekend's PAX East panel and we suggest that if you are interested in the next set, Dragon's Maze in the Return to Ravnica block, give it a listen . . .

~
We are definitely beginning to speculate on the Dragon's Maze spoilers / preview arts of all the Guild Champions.  Here's the list again if you missed it earlier.  Expect our baseless ramblings soon . . .
~
Azorious - Lavinia of the Tenth
Boros - Tajic, Blade of the Legion
Dimir - Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker
Golgari - Varolz, the Scar-Striped
Gruul - Ruric-Thar, The Unbowed
Izzet - Melek, Izzet Paragon
Orzhov - Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts
Rakdos - Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch
Selesnya - Emmara Tandris
Simic - Vorel of the Hull Clade

Theros

~
Happy Saturday MTG peeps,

The Magic: the Gathering Panel at PAX East has wrapped up for now but it will take quite some time to digest all the spoilers, previews and tid-bits of information Wizards of the Coast had provided to a packed room of participants.  Many thanks to Lauren Lee (@mulldrifting) and others for snapping pics during the MTG panel !

First up, the names of the sets in the next block were released.  Images captured by Germand MTG site Goyf.de from the Magic Online Championship livestream today.  Here's a brief timeline with code-names to put everything into perspective . . .

• Magic 2014 Core Set - July 2013
• Theros ('Friends') - September2013
• Born of the Gods ('Romans') - February 2014
• Journey into Nyx ('Countrymen') - May 2014
• Magic 2015 Core Set - July 2014
• 'Huey' - October 2014
• 'Dewey' - February 2015
• 'Louie' - May 2015

From the names here, we are thinking that perhaps we can expect a set with a Greco-Roman Mythology theme.  Here is some SWEEET spoiler art to whet your appetite !

Next - MOAR Dragon's Maze goodness !
Right in line with Doug Beyer's 'The Secretist' books, Guild Champions must find all ten Guild Gates (which will have NEW art) to complete the maze - and here's the corresponding Maze's End card in an alternate-art Dragon's Maze PreRelease Promo - see our previous post here.

Speaking of promos - during the Dragon's Maze, you can score this card which will have a code one can enter on PlaneswalkerPoints.com to level up an achievement.

Lastly, here's some very cool arts (no names yet) for cards we can expect upcoming in Dragon's Maze -

PAX East Day 1

~
Happy Friday MTG peeps,

If, like us, you don't have the cash to be at gamer Nirvana at PAX East in Boston this weekend, make certain to get to your local gaming store / card shop and get some Friday Night Magic.  We'll be at our local store OMG! Games here in Barrie, Ontario (where Winter storms continue to rage despite being informed that it's officially Spring), to try out a fun little home-brew build we've assembled.

Anywhoos - onto today's article, which really is a follow-up to yesterday's article - PAX East 2013 being held in Boston.  Why are we all gigity about this - for Magic: the Gathering of course - Wizards of the Coast not only will have our ear during their panel discussion tomorrow but digital players will be able to try their hand at the new Duels of the Planeswalkers 2014.  There has been an integration between the digital and paper product offering – in other words, Duels of the Planeswalkers players get the first look at cards from the upcoming Magic 2013 Core Set releasing this summer.

Writer Dan Tack (currently writing for Forbes) has been an early bird snapping pics and posting to Twitter for MTG fans.  Let's have a look at two new cards we may expect -
~
Shadowborn Apostle, b
Creature-Human Cleric, Common
A deck can have any number of cards named Shadowborn Apostle.
b, sacrifice six creatures named Shadowborn Apostle: Search your library for a demon creature and put it onto the battlefield.
1/1

This looks fun.  We know it's a trap to play in constructed, but we still want a few games with this build.

~
Staff of the Wild Magus, 3
Artifact, Uncommon
Whenever you cast a green spell or a Forest enters the battlefield under your control you may gain 1 life.

We have a suspicion here that we may finally see a change to the core set 'Lucky Charms' cycle.

~
In addition to the Shadowborn Demon card previewed, in yesterday's article, we think all is well in our n3rd gamer world.

Magic 2014 – Duels of the Planeswalkers playable at PAX East

Wizards of the Coast has announced that Magic 2014 – Duels of the Planeswalkers is due this northern summer, heading to Android for the first time alongside iPad, PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.  The press release promises “exciting new features” – an immersive storyline; ten brand new decks; 15 new encounters; 10 new puzzle challenges and an all-new play mode – as well as stronger integration with the collectible card game. You can check it out at the Magic: The Gathering booth at PAX East from March 22 through 24.

Tumblr Tuesday

~
Happy Tuesday MTG peeps,

It's Tuesday again - time to dip into our random posts and musings over on our sister site, MTG Realm on Tumblr.  Before we head that way however we want all the Magic: the Gathering fans out there to stay tuned for Gatecrash spoilers, previews and news coming out of PAX East in Boston this weekend.

We anticipate our first official preview at the Wizards of the Coast panel, and whether it is just art or a card (or both!), we are certainly looking forward.  Check out WotC Monty's recent post to Magic Arcana earlier for some of the very cool swag / merch which will be available there.  For a full list of all Magic: the Gathering game events, here's a document from TJ Collectibles who will be organizing these.  Speaking of Dragon's Maze, MTG Mint Card already has selected bulk lots available for pre-order.  Anywhoos, buckle up, here we go . . .
