Magic Duels - Origins Spoiler

~
Happy Tuesday MTG peeps,

The other day, IGN had posted a rather nice game play trailer video for the Magic Duels digital game, which is due to be release very soon.  Of particular interest to the spoiler nutters in the Magic: the Gathering Community is that there may be some cards within the digital game which gets a printing within the next and last core set, Magic Origins.  Before we get into the nitty-gritty, here's that trailer we speak of -

With careful examination we can float out the following new cards which we would expect to see in Magic Origins -

Chandra's Ignition, 3RR
Sorcery, Rare
Target creature you control deals damage equal to its power to each other creature and each opponent.
In the moment before her execution, she realized what it meant to be a pyromancer, to be alive, to be Chandra.

Ravaging Blaze, XRR
Instant, Uncommon
Ravaging Blaze deals X damage to target creature.
Spell mastery — If there are two or more instant and/or sorcery cards in your graveyard, Ravaging Blaze also deals X damage to that creature's controller.

Displacement Wave, XUU
Sorcery, Uncommon
Return all nonland permanents with converted mana cost X or less to their owners' hands.

Now - some of the marketing -

Magic Duels is the best way to start playing Magic, offering endless free gameplay, regular content updates, unlockable cards, and many exciting multiplayer modes—including the return of Two-Headed Giant!

Monday MTG Miscellany

~
Happy Monday MTG peeps,

If you are a Magic: the Gathering fan, chances are you likely made time to get to a local gaming store to take part in a Conspiracy draft.  Loads of great stories and epic pack pulls are sprinkled across the interwebs.  For today's post we wanted to a round-up of a few interesting tid-bits over the last few days so strap in and let's go -

First up - 'Planeswalkers'
Wizards had filed for this trademark back last weekend.  We do not expect a stand-alone set to shake out of this filing.  This may very well be simply some housekeeping for the digital games line.

Next - another M15 DotP video walk-through.
This one is rather nicely put together and not only shows some of the game play but also shows quite nicely some of the background story themes with the tainted Garruk Planeswalker, the player and Liliana shown with the cursed 'chain veil', an ancient and powerful artifact she had retrieved from an ancient catacomb.  New cards 'Chasm Stalker' and 'Goblin Rabblemaster' are also shown - we're looking to pre-order these up at MTG Mint Card.

~
Lastly, some nostalgia for some older and less popular casual multiplayer variant Magic: the Gathering formats.  Xenphire from the forums had provided these pics of a rules insert from 1999

The Emperor variant involves two teams of three players each. Each team sits together on one side of the table, with team members deciding the order in which they're seated. Each team has one "emperor," which is the player seated in the middle of the team. The remaining players on the team are "generals" whose job is to protect their emperor while attempting to take down the opposing emperor.

The Grand Melee format is normally used only in games begun with ten or more players.  Players sit around the table exactly as they would for a Free-for-All game, choosing their seats randomly. Unlike that variant, however, each player has a "range of influence" of 1. This means their spells and abilities can affect only themselves and players within one seat of their own: the player directly to the left and the player directly to the right.

D15 M15 Spoilers

~
Happy Tuesday MTG peeps,

Summer has finally arrived here in Central Ontario marked by some high temperatures and unfortunately accompanying humidity.  Which leads us to our next public service announcement - protect your card collection from UV and humidity - get them out of sunlight and in a dry area.  We had once left a handful of cards from a booster pack pull near an open window for a few days.  We were going to give 'em to a few new players who hang out at a local community centre but the humidity kinda killed the edges, so straight into the recycling bin.

Also - a reminder - we are running a CONTEST here on MTG Realm - if you want a chance to score the prize in this give-away, pop on over to this linky for details.

Anywhoos, we are throughly enjoying the video walk-throughs of the Magic 2015 Duels of the Planeswalkers - this digital game looks great with the new improvements and we are pumped that it will allow players to build their own decklists from scratch.  As both the (physical card) core set and digital game share a high level of integration, a number of cards within the digital game will be printed in the core set.

The video walk-throughs provided by Liz Lamb-Ferro, Brand Manager at Wizards of the Coast, are very good but of interest to us is catching a glimpse of some new, never seen before cards which essentially suggests a print in the core set.  It goes without saying we'll want to pick all these up via a pre-order from MTG Mint CardLiz does an effective job of scrolling past at high speed some of the screens where we may see these cards but with some patience and luck we are able to float out some possible new cards.  Here are some (unofficial) Magic 2015 spoilers from a recent Game Spot video that have been mocked-up below -

Phytotitan, 4GG
Creature - Plant Elemental, Rare
When Phytotitan dies, return it to the battlefield under its owner's control tapped at the beginning of his or her next upkeep.
7/2

Meteorite, 5?
Artifact, Uncommon
When Meteorite enters the battlefield it deals 1(?) damage to target creature or player
Tap : add one mana of any color to your mana pool

Hot Soup, 1
Artifact - Equipment, Uncommon
Equipped creature (can't be blocked??)
Whenever equipped creature is dealt damage, destroy it
Equip (?)

Radiant(?) Fountain
Land, Common
When Radiant(?) Fountain enters the battlefield you gain 1(?) life
Tap : add 1 to your mana pool

DotP 2015 Promo

~
Happy Wednesday MTG peeps,

We promise to provide a post rather soon to catch up with all the amazing Conspiracy spoilers and previews rather soon but for today we need to catch up on some other Magic: the Gathering news, so strap in and lets get to that now.

Off the hop, we have to talk about a Magic 2015 core set spoiler from German gaming site Gameswelt.  This new Magic: the Gathering card is to be one of two exclusive premium cards available to Duels of the Planeswalkers 2015 gamers who can obtain a redemption code in the digital game for a special M15 five card booster pack they can pick up at a local brick 'n' mortar gaming store.  The preview card today 'Soul of Zendikar' is reported to be the promo card for mobile / PC gamers and we expect to see the second promo card for Xbox players latter on.  Altough we have not yet seen the official release date of DotP 2015, the cardboard (paper) set will release on 18th July, 2014.  Here's the card in the original German with a translated mock-up (which of course may not be completely accurate).

Soul of Zendikar, 4GG
Creature - Avatar, Mythic Rare
Reach
3GG: Put a 3/3 green Beast token into play
3GG, exile Soul of Zendikar from you graveyard: Put a 3/3 green Beast token into play
6/6

This appears to be card number 201/269, illustrated by Eytan Zana, who had also recently provided art for the Conspiracy card 'Agent of Acquisitions'.  Soul of Zendikar is the fifth card revealed so far and joins Wall of Fire, Waste Not, Necromancer's Assistant, and Genesis Hydra.  And yes, we most definitely want to pick up all the singles so far from MTG Mint Card.
~
While we are yattering about Duels of the Planeswalkers, here's a short and very cool story-line blurb along with some digital game details from Wizards of the Coast.  Also provided below are two M15 / DotP 2015 illustrations from the very talented Brad Rigney (Cryptcrawler on Deviantart).

Ignite Your Spark

~
Happy Monday MTG peeps,

It's sort of a good news and bad news today.  The motherboard on our machine finally cack'd and we're moving into a new machine (the new iMac), which is kind of like moving IRL and a pain in the posterior.  Given this, we'll rise from the ashes in the next few days or so, which is also when we'll have a ring at our door from the courier delivering a box of awesome new Theros singles from MTG Mint Card.

Anywhoos - for today's post - some news which will make CosPlay fans happy.  Wizards has wrapped up their 'Ignite Your Spark Contest', which challenged fans to submit a photo of themselves auditioning to become the Planeswalker of their choice. Contestants could choose any of the following Planeswalkers: Ajani Goldmane, Chandra Nalaar, Elspeth Tirel, Garruk Wildspeaker, Gideon Jura, Jace Beleren, Karn, Koth of the Hammer, Liliana vess, Nicol Bolas, Nissa Revane, Ral Zarek, Sarkhan Vol, Sorin Markov, Tamiyo, Tezzeret, Tibalt, Venser, or Vraska.

Felicia Day made the announcement over on the mothersite today . . .

Congratulations to Laura H. (Sumyuna Cosplay) from Madrid, Spain, on her winning Chandra cosplay! Laura will win a trip for two to a PAX of her choice in 2014!
'After some destructive attempts at pyromancy trying to imitate Chandra, Laura proposes herself as a stand-in for her promotional duties and leave her free to go on with the usual incinerating business.'

Fan Favorite winner Christine X. (Cspranklerun / Christine Sprankle) - Wins a laptop and a Magic swag bag including a copy of Magic 2014: Duels of the Planeswalkers
'I am Elspeth. I live my Dreams as a Planeswalker playing Magic: The Gathering. You too can become a Champion of Light, Knowledge, Nature, Fire or Death. Live the Game. Play the Game.'

M14 Spoilers 7-04

~
Happy Thursday MTG peeps,

Also a very happy 'Fourth of July' Independence Day to our American cousins to the south.  MTG Realm might not have a daily post tomorrow as we'll be traveling to London to get to a FNM tournament at L.A. Mood Comics & Games, so perhaps look to any updates this weekend on MTG Realm's Tumblr.
Although WotC offices are closed for the holiday, Magic: the Gathering fans have still been treated to some articles and Magic 2014 previews on the mothersite.  check out T.J.'s 7/4 article on the Magic Arcana.  We also have some interesting illustrations from Duels of the Planeswalkers 2014 to share as well, so stay tuned after the spoiler bit.  Anywhoos - Here's the round-up of the three new M14 cards which were shown today on the mothersite -
~

Imposing Sovereign, 1w
Creature - Human, Rare
Creatures your opponents control enter the battlefield tapped.
2/1

This looks like a nice Blind Obedience on a stick and should make some sealed players happy.  This looks like it may make the cut into a lot of builds right now.  Whether you are playing WW Aggro, humans or something Boros, Imposing Sovereign might find a slot in your stack.
~
Lifebane Zombie, 1bb
Creature - Zombie, Rare
Intimidate
When Lifebane Zombie enters the battlefield, target opponent reveals his or her hand. You choose a green or white creature card from it and exile that card.
3/1

Zombies are looking rather lovely in M14.  Between Lifebane, Xathrid Necromancer, Undead Minotaur, Minotaur Abomination and Liliana's Reaver, we think that the tribe is well represented.  Lifebane Zombie provides some nice control elements.  Too bad this comes down a turn after Voice of Resurgence, but hey, at least it turfs Thragtusk and provides a difficult to block threat.
~
Dismiss into Dream, 6u
Enchantment, Rare
Each creature your opponents control is an Illusion in addition to its other types and has "When this creature becomes the target of a spell or ability, sacrifice it."

We really don't know if any player will care for this card, even in EDH / Commander.  We can easily imagine a player crying and needing to be consoled after ripping this jank out of a pack.

~

Big thanks to forum member Seba169 who shared these lovely DotP 2014 arts with us.  Of course, none of these are guaranteed to see a print in M14, but let's have a looky-loo anyways.

• First - It's been suggested that this may be Cursed Land, as seen in the "Weather the Storm" DotP encounter.
• Second - This appears to be the art for Sliver Construct
• Third - Really reminds us of Warstorm Surger.
• Fourth - Suggested that his is Aether Storm from the same DotP encounter mentioned above.
• Fifth - has been suggested as the art possibly belonging to Inferno.
