Twelve Days of MTG Christmas

Happy Thursday MTG peeps,

We are rapidly approaching the Holiday Season culminating in Christmas at month's end.  Many gamers have already secured a variety of Magic: the Gathering presents to place in stockings or under the Christmas tree already after the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales events.  Several very clever players have already fabricated and installed MTG-themed Advent calendars to mark down the days to Christmas.  

For today's post, we are digging back to a much earlier post some years ago in which we've yattered about the popular cumulative song, 'The Twelve Days of Christmas' adapted to this our favourite game.  There are, of course, everal minor variations, amendments or other improvements on this but we'll stick with this list for now.  Let's have a looky-loo -

Our playgroup was chatting the other evening about this very song when someone wondered as to the price for all of these very lovely cards.  That is what we hope to estimate right now.  Prices below are a rough aggregate from CCG House, MTG Mint Card, other online retailers and our own local WPN store OMG! Games here in Barrie.  

• Foil 7th Edition Storm Crow ($1 foil)in a Doran, the Siege Tower Lorwyn ($10 Foil).  We used Doran, our fav card to rep the treefolk here.

• 2x Tarmogoyfs ($700 Future Sight Foil)

• 3x Mutavaults ($35 M14 foil) 

• 4x Squadron Hawk ($3 FNM promo)

• 5x Sol Rings ($25 From the Vault: Relics)

• 6x Sphinx's Revelation ($28 Return to Ravnica foil)

• 7x Stoneforge Mystics ($160 Worldwake foil)

• 8x Goblin Bushwacker ($3 Zendikar foil) We used the bushwacker here as we thought it looked very 'lurky'.

• Black Lotus ($6,750 Unlimited), Ancestral Recall ($1,700 Unlimited) Time Walk ($1,200 Unlimited), Mox Pearl ($1,200 Unlimited), Mox Sapphire ($1,600 Unlimited), Mox Jet ($1,300 Unlimited), Mox Ruby ($1,000 Unlimited), Mox Emerald ($1,100 Unlimited), and Timetwister ($650 Unlimited).

• 10x Lord of Atlantis ($75 7th Edition foil)

• 11x Elvish Pipers Piping ($12 M10 foil)

• 12x Deepwood Drummer ($1 Mecadian Masques foil)

Summed up, we are looking at just under $21,000 or so.

2014 Holiday Card

Happy  Tuesday MTG peeps,

Since 2006, Wizards of the Coast has been kicking off the Holiday season with a Happy Holidays Card.  These Magic: the Gathering promo cards are provided to WotC staff as well as to some of their business partners.  The cards themselves are often a witty, tongue-in-cheek creation and most definitely big on fun.  The cards are silver bordered and not tournament legal but we do know some players to include them in their fun cube or other games.

Today over on the mothersite, Mike McArtor revealed this year's Happy Holiday card - Mishra's Toy Workshop - a play on antiquities' Mishra's Workshop.

Even though Urza tried to apologize, Mishra continued to bear a grudge.

Awesome.  We suggest popping over to MTG Mint Card to pick up some MTG singles to pair with this (like Leyline of the Meek, Intangible Virtue or Phantom General) should you want to proxy this up for a fun game.

An MTG Christmas

Happy hump-day MTG peeps,

Here at MTG Realm, we are beginning to get in to the Christmas spirit and have subsequently been busily engaged with all manner of Holiday customs - decorations, greeting cards, and what-not.  Let's have a look at what we've been up to.

It may be a bit late but we're thinking of still doing up an Advent Calendar like the one Win-Mill did here.

Perhaps not for everyone, but here is an idea for a holiday photo to send along with your Season's Greetings newsletter to friends and family.  This one from Reddit user 'ILikeToPinch' posing with some MTG cards and what I'm sure is a not a real Smith & Wesson SD40.  Ensure you add a witty line about in-game missed triggers.

An easy MTG Christmas decoration you can do - grab a bunch of your most expensive foils, punch holes in 'em and make a garland for your Christmas tree . . .

2013 MTG Happy Holidays Promo

Happy Friday MTG peeps,

Meterologically speaking, it's been relatively mild so far but things have quite decidedly become cold 'n' crisp heralding the oncoming Winter (insert GoT quip here).  

Plutôt à propos, WotC staffer TJ dropped this year's intended 'Happy Holidays' card in the Arcana.  These Magic: the Gathering Holidays Cards are not tournament-legal but completely fun in foil, which are provide to Wizards’ staff and business partners. Say hello to the 2013 Happy Holidays card - the homophonically witty 'Stocking Tiger'!

MTG 2012 Holiday Promo Card

Happy Wednesday MTG peeps, 

Just a titch early this year, Wizards of the Coast has released their 2012 Holiday card. If you are not aware, these Holidays Cards are not tournament-legal but completely fun in foil, which are provide to Wizards’ staff and business partners. If you are not affiliated with WoTC and really, really want to score one of these, don't fret - they do occasionally find their way onto the singles market but expect to pay around $50 for these fun foil curiosities.
