MTG Eye Candy

~
Happy Friday MTG peeps,

We want to wish our American cousins south of the border a very Happy Thanksgiving and best wishes in hunting down those bargains during the Black Friday / Cyber Monday sales. We think there may be a joke somewhere in here with hunting and Rebecca Black on Friday but we're gonna let that slide for now.

Anywhoos - Onto the MTG geek eye candy . . .

Flickr user Dr. Von Krakenstein (linky here) has a variety of Magic the Gathering related art. Check out some of these neato NES pixel creations done with MTG cards -

And now for some mana symbols he had done up . . . just click to embiggen 'em -

Magic the Derpening

~
Happy Thursday MTG peeps,

Our good friend 'JFK' who likes to send us funny select memes from a variety of sources, sent one late last night. She knows we're nuts about Magic the Gathering and could not wait to share this link with us - from 'Magic Cards with Googly Eyes' (linky here).

This Tumblr site is piloted by Amanda who sometimes hangs out at the Lady Planeswalker Society meetups to sling MTG cards, knit, talk about cats, and do crazy things with Magic cards. Something about googly eyes just makes us LoL. Amanda is a very cool and funny gal and we hope she continues with this tomfoolery.

Apparently, according to both MTG pros Sean McKeown and Mike Flores, the card is 'Druidic Satchel. Check out recent posts by Mike over at Five with Flores and this StarCity Games article, Designing Decks For States
Sean McKeown. It appears that this card from M12 may be gaining popularity. We still think it mediocre but definity won't be trading away our set until the next set (Dark Ascension) comes out.

The popular build right now is U/B Tezzeret but we are eyeing it up for a inclusion in a casual green white token build. Every turn, this could either gain you life, give you an extra mana drop, or churn out a 1/1 Saproling token - not too bad but we still think it could be slow. Only palytesting will determine.

Innistrad FAQ

~
Happy Tuesday Evening MTG peeps,

In this post, we give you the quick and dirty crash course on the upcoming Magic the Gathering set by summarising the
Innistrad Frequently Asked Questions document. The original is posted on the mothership here.
~

Innistrad contains 264 cards (107 common, 67 uncommon, 59 rare, 16 mythic rare, and 15 basic lands.

Prerelease events: September 24-25, 2011

Launch Parties: September 30-October 3, 2011

Innistrad set becomes legal for sanctioned Constructed play on its official release date: Friday, September 30, 2011.
At that time, the following card sets will be permitted in the Standard format: Scars of Mirrodin, Mirrodin Besieged, New Phyrexia, Magic 2012, and Innistrad.

~
Innistrad FAQ
~
New Card Layout: Double-Faced Cards
New Keyword Action: Transform

There are 20 Innistrad cards have two faces: a front face and a back face. A new keyword action, transform, allows you to turn the card over to its other face under certain conditions. The front face of the card has a sun symbol in its upper left corner. The back face has a moon symbol in its upper left corner. While Double-Faced Cards are in public zone, each player may look at both faces and is always cast face up.

Transforming a Double-Faced permanent doesn't affect any Auras or Equipment attached to that permanent. Similarly, any counters on the permanent will remain on that permanent after it transforms. Similarily, damage marked on a double-faced permanent will stay marked on that permanent after it transforms.

~
Theme: Double-Faced Werewolves

There are 12 Innistrad cards which can transform from a human-werewolf into a full werewolf given a triggered ability that may transform it. Similarly, each back face has the same triggered ability that may transform it back.

~
Characteristic: Color Indicator
Double-faced Innistrad cards have a small dot to the left of its type line. This circular symbol is its "color indicator."

~
Game Supplement: Checklist Cards

Cards in your deck be indistinguishable from one another. To accomplish this with double-faced cards, you can use the checklist cards which are included in some booster packs. Fat Packs will contain ten checklist cards.

~
New Ability Word: Morbid

Morbid abilities, found on some creature, instants and sorceries cards check whether a creature died earlier in the turn. It's important to remember that Token creatures can also die, going to their owner's graveyard before ceasing to exist.

~
Returning Keyword Ability: Flashback

Flashback appears on some instants and sorceries. It represents two static abilities: one that functions while the card is in a player's graveyard and the other that functions while the card is on the stack. "Flashback [cost]" means "You may cast this card from your graveyard by paying [cost] rather than paying its mana cost" and "If the flashback cost was paid, exile this card instead of putting it anywhere else any time it would leave the stack."

~
New Subtype: Curse

There are six Auras in Innistrad which can enchant a player that could have a negative effect for that enchanted player. These enchantments have the additional subtype "Curse."

~
Theme: Vampires with +1/+1 Counters

There are four Vampire creature cards in Innistrad that puts puts one or more +1/+1 counters on the creature when they deal combat damage to your opponent. The +1/+1 counter isn't put on the creature in time to increase the amount of combat damage dealt during that combat step.

~
New Keyword Action: Fight

To fight, each of the indicated creatures simultaneously deals damage equal to its power to the other specified creature.

~
Cycle: Enemy "Tap Lands"

Innistrad has a cycle of lands that produce two colors of mana and enter the battlefield tapped unless you control a certain land.

~

And now a word about jumping on this upcoming set - we're suggesting getting in your pre-orders ahead of the official release on September 30th next month. Check out the excellent prices at MTG Mint Card here.

Scars of Mirrodin Art Dump

~
Good Day MTG peeps,

If you were not aware, Wizards of the Coast made a big impression on attendees at the recent Gen Con this past week. For WoTC coverage of their events at the Gen Con Consumer Convention for the Hobby Game Industry in Indianapolis, click here. One very good reason to take in Gen Con is that one would be able to take photos of odd, surreal and beautiful in addition to obtain multiple copies of Serra Angel and the like.

Anywhos, forum members BCGamer, vatechguy (many thanks for posting the pics), along with hundreds of other convention goers, were treated courtesy of Wizards to some amazing Scars of Mirrodin art previews. These are images taken of a monitor showing a scrolling marquee of Scars of Mirrodin art preview so please do not expect the best quality images. Without further adieu, let's have a looky see . . .

Wow -
That is quite a lot to take in.
So, from the images, we can expect Dragons, Elves, Leonins, Loxodons, Angels, Planeswalkers Elspeth (new variant) and Koth, as well as an assortment of other artifact critters.

Drop a comment below and provide your speculation.

RoE Sealed Products

~
Just another quick post today folks,

We would like to do a round-up of all the sealed product packaging Wizards had posted so far this week in the Magic Arcana as part of the big ramp up to the Rise of the Eldrazi Spoilers and Previews. We will have a look at the very cool arts on Booster Packs, Intro Packs and Fat Packs.

But first, before we get to that, here is a piece of total randomness - looking over all the awesome Rise of the Eldrazi creature artwork, why are there no Moose ? (we have Elk and Antelope)

I was reminiscing and looking at some old photos when I came across this one . . . yep - that's a baby Moose in the back seat. Her mother was unfortunately killed in an vehicle accident but she had escaped with only minor injuries. So, thinking out loud here - baby Moose are pretty damn cute (and dangerous) - so why no Moose Wizards - can we get one in within the next block please ?

~
Well, anywhoos - let's get back on topic . . .

Make sure you check out these killer arts on Rise of the Eldrazi sealed product . . .

Rise of the Eldrazi Intro Packs - 09 March 2010

Rise of the Eldrazi Booster Packs - 10 March 2010

Rise of the Eldrazi Fat Packs - 11 March 2010

That's it for now folks, tune in latter for more wild randomness.
