12 Days of MTG Christmas

~
Happy Tuesday MTG peeps,

It being the 12th day of December, this had reminded us of an apropos post a few years back on December 4th, 2014 where we had laid out our Magic: the Gathering take on the jolly Christmas Carol, The Twelve Days of Christmas.  To this end, we now regurgitate that post to you, along with the estimated card value from that time.

MTG 2011 Holiday Promo Card

~
Happy Tuesday MTG peeps,

Just a titch early this year, Wizards of the Coast has released their 2011 Holiday card. If you are not aware, these Holidays Cards are not tournament-legal but completely fun in foil, which are provide to Wizards’ staff and business partners. If you are not affiliated with WoTC and really, really want to score one of these, don't fret - they do occasionally find their way onto the singles market but expect to pay around $50 for these fun foil curiosities.

Anywhoos -
This year's card is the very witty Yule Ooze with art by Steve Prescot . . .

Here is a review of past Magic the Gathering Holiday cards - we'll say Christmas Cards as we just so happen to be Christian. Click on the linky for each to download the wallpaper or to embiggen that image -

Also, another announcement from corporate world for fans of HeroClix (and other games).

The Topps Company announced today that WizKids will immediately cease operations and discontinue its product lines.
Scott Silverstein, CEO of Topps, said “This was an extremely difficult decision. While the company will still actively pursue gaming initiatives, we feel it is necessary to align our efforts more closely with Topps current sports and entertainment offerings which are being developed within our New York office.”

Upon notifying our partners, Topps will immediately pursue strategic alternatives so that viable brands and properties, including HeroClix, can continue without noticeable disruption. To that end, WizKids will continue supporting Buy it By the Brick redemptions for Arkham Asylum, and the December Organized Play events for HeroClix.

Anywho, my theory . . . I think that corporate bean-counters already knew that they were going to splash WizKids when they took over in 2003. I think Jordan Weisman will not be sending Arthur Shorin a Christmas card this year.
