Happy Thursday MTG peeps,
Just one more day till the weekend hits. Its Commander night at our local gaming store, OMG! Games here in Barrie and of course Friday Night Magic tomorrow evening and we anticipate that we'll be yattering about the latest Dragons of Tarkir previews / spoilers as much as we'll actually be playing Magic: the Gathering. Anywhoos, we should probably get on to today's new card goodness, so strap in and let's go !
~
Dragonlord Dromoka, 4GW
Legendary Creature - Elder Dragon, Mythic Rare
Dragonlord Dromoka can't be countered.
Flying, lifelink
Your opponents can't cast spells during your turn.
5/7
Mothersite preview. Damn fine card although perhaps not a big spalsh in standard as perhaps Commander. Not to long ago, we had a bunch of Loxodon Smiters in our sideboard against control decks, this may be a bit of a stretch but we can imagine that we would want at least one or two in a standard format sideboard.
~
Atarka's Command, RG
Instant, Rare
Choose two —
• Your opponents can't gain life this turn.
• Atarka's Command deals 3 damage to each opponent.
• You may put a land card from your hand onto the battlefield.
• Creatures you control get +1/+1 and gain reach until end of turn.
Magic EU preview. We rather like this Command - all the abilities here are relevant and feel that this is good sb tech to nerf that lifegain from Siege Rhino.
~
Zurgo Bellstriker, R
Legendary Creature - Orc Warrior, Rare
Zurgo Bellstriker can't block creatures with power 2 or greater.
Dash 1R (You may cast this spell for its dash cost. If you do, it gains haste and is returned to its owner's hand at the beginning of the next end step.)
2/2
Mothersite preview. Will see play in several formats, likely in rdw / sligh and perhaps even as a Commander for the tall stacks. This guy was so boss in the other timeline, it's funny / sad that he's just a tea-cozy now.
~
Ojutai Exemplars, 2WW
Creature - Human Monk, Mythic Rare
Whenever you cast a noncreature spell, choose one —
• Tap target creature.
• Ojutai Exemplars gains first strike and lifelink until end of turn.
• Exile Ojutai Exemplars, then return it to the battlefield tapped under its owner's control.
4/4
Channel Fireball preview. Love the blink effect here to sidestep those wipes. We can see this being employed as a finisher at the top end of the curve in some standard builds.
~
Arashin Foremost, 1WW
Creature - Human Warrior, Rare
Double Strike
Whenever Arashin Foremost enters the battlefield or attacks, another target Warrior creature you control gains double strike until end of turn.
2/2
Aaron Forsythe Twitter preview. Warrior tribal - w00t! We've got a soft spot for this build see no reason not to invite this one to the party.
~
Den Protector, 1G
Creature - Human Warrior, Rare
Creatures with power less than Den Protector's power can't block it.
Megamorph 1G
When Den Protector is turned face up, return target card from your graveyard to your hand.
2/1
WotC Elaine Chase twitter preview. Slap on a 'Become Immense' and go to town.
~
Deathmist Raptor, 1GG
Creature - Lizard Beast, Mythic Rare
Deathtouch
Whenever a permanent you control is turned face-up, you may return Deathmist Raptor from your graveyard to the battlefield face-up or face-down.
Megamorph 4G (You may cast this card face down as a 2/2 creature for 3. Turn it face up at any time for its megamorph cost and put a +1/+1 counter on it.)
3/3
Happy MTG preview - rough translation from Japanese. A bit suprised that WotC had developed this in the Mythic slot unaffiliated with any dragon clan. Aside from that, its mega-morphing time y'awl.
