Many fans I know of 'Magic: The Gathering' agree that viewing card spoilers from new sets may be the next best thing to playing the game itself. A large number of players spend hours going over previewed cards ahead of the set's release to either prepare for the release tournament itself or to contemplate the value of these new cards in their existing decks or new ones. Others are simply on the lookout for the next winning card combination.

Wizards of the Coast realises the effectiveness of marketing the new set with spoilers on their minisite, within their articles or within select gaming magazines. Wizards recently even provided previews to larger gaming stores such as Star City Games and Cool Stuff Inc., to enhance product exposure to the Magic community at large.

The challenge for bloggers such as myself and others is to provide readers with 'ahead of the curve' information and unofficial images and provide a critical evaluation or analysis of this. Most of this yummy spoiler fodder is gleaned from the internet or sometimes provided by an acquaintance on a far-flung contintent.

Here is a run-down of some of the more traditional media one may find Magic spoilers . .

Game Japan -
A Japanese company which publishes magazines specialising in gaming, rpg, and other anime / manga material.

Lotus Noir -
The French company, Play Factory which hosts a large website, various forums and produces a variety of gaming publications such as Dragon Blanc and Lotus Noir.

Mana Rouge -
A French company with produces the publications Mana Rouge (MTG), Ravage (play minatures), and Bella Sara (TCG).

Scrye -
Initially only a price guide for Magic cards, this publication eventually purchased the game news site, Gaming Report and now provides coverage for a variety of games and collectible cards.

CanTrip
The Brazillian company Devir has expanded into Portugal and Spain and publishes / distributes a variety of games or gaming-related products.

I am unable, no matter how hard I scoured the internet, find any information on Cartes de Combate, supposedly where Wizards had previewed several cards . . . Any help would be appreciated.

As mentioned previously, Wizards had used the powerful online vehicle of these two stores . . .

While I still have your attention, I want to bounce a Shadowmoor / Eventide combination that jumped out at me the other day. It involves dropping a Nectroskitter Elemental Creature on the board to bring any of your opponent's creatures with a -1/-1 counter back from the graveyard under your control. This is followed by Blowfly Infestation enchantment to ensure all those -1/-1 counters receive new hosts and finally kickstarting the whole nasty mess off with Incremental Blight to garuantee unwilling recruits.

See you at FNM !

I really like your combo with Blowfly Infestation. I may have to mention that combo on my site after my post related to that card.

I'll say it here first. I've given new respect to Blowfly Infestation as a deck theme. I may try and pull it out at a FNM.

Would you be interested in building and comparing Blowfly Infestation decks?

Well here it is . . . a WITHER deck containing 40 spells (just add black mana and an appropriate side-board). I tried to maintain a minimal amount of rare cards to make this somewhat affordable. I think it's 'Wither-riffic' !

4 x Oona's Gatewarden / 2/1 Creature / (U/B) / SHA-Com / Flying, Defender, Wither

4 x Raven's Crimer / Sorcery / B / EVE-Com / Target player discards a card, Retrace.

4 x Torture / Enchantment Aura / B / EVE-Com / 1B : Put a -1/-1 counter on enchanted creature.

4x Sickle Ripper / 2/1 Creature / 1B / Wither

4 x Necroskitter / 1/4 Creature / 1BB / EVE-Rare / Wither, Whenerver a creature an opponent controls with a -1/-1 counter on it is put into a graveyard, you may return that card to play under your control.

4 x Blowfly Infestation / Enchantment / 2B / SHA-Uncom / Whenever a creature is put into a graveyard from play, if it had a -1/-1 counter on it, put a -1/-1 counter on target creature.

4 x Needle Specter / 1/1 Creature / 1BB / EVE-Rare / Flying, Wither, Whenever Needle Spectre deals combat damage to a player, that player discards a card.

4 x Lockjaw Snapper / 2/2 Artifact Creature / 4 / SHA-Uncom / Wither, When Lockjaw Snapper is put into a graveyard from play, put a -1/-1 counter on each creature with a -1/-1 counter on it.

4 x Incremental Blight / Sorcery / 3BB / SHA-Uncom / Put a -1/-1 counter on target creature, two -1/-1 counters on another target creature, and three -1/-1 counters on a third target creature.

4 x Kulrath Knight / 3/3 Creature / 3(B/R)(B/R) / SHA-Uncom / Flying, Wither, Creatures your opponents control with counters on them can't attack or block.

Alternatively, you may choose to use Hunter of Eyeblights . . . This works with ANY counter - either +1/+1 OR -1/-1.
4 x Hunter of Eyeblights / 3/3 Creature / 3BB / LOR-Uncom / When Hunter of Eyeblights comes into play, put a +1/+1 counter on target creature you don't control, Pay 2B & Tap - Destroy target creature with a counter on it.

I put this deck together to play casually and I would make some changes, but overall I like the synergies this deck has. Most of all I think the control factor Blowfly Infestation brings to the table is a force especially with Kulrath Knight. Here is the list:

4 x Corrosive Mentor
2 x Cultbrand Cinder
2 x Dusk Urchins
2 x Glen Elendra Liege
1 x Grief Tyrant
4 x Kulrath Knight
2 x Shriekmaw

1 x Bad Moon
3 x Beseech the Queen
3 x Blowfly Infestation
3 x Fate Transfer
3 x Incremental Blight
4 x Scar
1 x Scarscale Ritual
2 x Gnarled Effigy

23 x Swamp

Now as I said I would make a few changes. Including adding one Liliana Vess as well as Hunter of Eyeblights and Lockjaw Snapper. Unfortunately I didn't consider anything yet from Eventide.
