The More Things Change

Happy Tuesday MTG peeps,

While we here at MTG Realm are busily looking forward to brewing up new decklists to welcome the latest Magic the Gathering set into standard, we want to take a breather and have a closer look at Born of the Gods.  What for?  The other evening as all the new cards were scattered around the table we thought we had a déjà vu experience.  Indeed we did, as we had just come across a reprinted card.  Today's post will go over some reprinted cards as well as some pretty close lookalikes.  Let's go . . .

We have to admit that we are digg'n each of the new refreshed arts.  Onto something else - not reprints but functional reprints where it is essentially the same card but updated creature type or name to better fit within the new set's theme or storyline.  If you so happen to have a constructed deck whose strategy is critical to drawing into one of these functional reprints, then you've just doubled your chances.   :)

Alara Reprints

We have solid evidence of FIVE possible reprints to the new Shards of Alara set just spoiled (today at 1500 Hrs.) by 'zesty234' to 'that' forum . . .

Goblin Mountaineer, Naturalize, Infest, Cancel, Oblivion Ring

Oblivion - 3, Ring - 3, Cancel - 1, Mountaineer - 1, Naturalize - 1

For those of you who need a quick refresher (I did), here is the skinny -

Goblin Mountaineer
Common,{R} Creature - Goblin Scout Mountainwalk 1/1

Naturalize
Common, 1{G} Instant Destroy target artifact or enchantment.

Infest
1{B}{B}, Uncommon Sorcery All creatures get -2/-2 until end of turn.

Cancel
Common, 1{U}{U} Type: Instant Counter target spell.

Oblivion Ring
Common, 2{W} Enchantment When Oblivion Ring comes into play, remove another target nonland permanent from the game. When Oblivion Ring leaves play, return the removed card to play under its owner's control.

Flame Javelin
Flame Javelin deals 4 damage to target creature or player.

Unmake
Remove target creature from the game.
