BNG Spoilers 1-21

~
Happy Tuesday MTG peeps,

If you guessed that more Born of the Gods previews were on tap today, you would be correct.  At post time, we were sitting at 64 of 165 Magic: the Gathering cards revealed.  Although far from certain, we should now have all ten mythic rare cards squared away now in addition to over half of the expected rare cards.  As we are drawing close to the end of Born of the Gods spoilers and previews, we suggest you talk to you local gaming store about booster box preorders, reserving a seat at the PreRelease, etc.  Anywhoos, let's get on with today's new cards - be sure to drop by again should there be any additional late day previews.

~
Phenax, God of Deception, 3ub
Legendary Enchantment Creature — God, Mythic Rare
Indestructible
As long as your devotion to blue and black is less than seven, Phenax isn't a creature.
Creatures you control have "{T}: Target player puts the top X cards of his or her library into his or her graveyard, where X is this creature's toughness."
4/7

Mothersite preview. FINALLY!  We were getting a bit anxious as to when WotC was planning to preview this as all of the other allied-colour gods were already taken card of.  If you guessed Phenax was going to have a mill ability, give yourself a gold star (apparently there are a lot of gold stars to hand out today).  This is likely to be a deadly effecient card which will win limited games.  Beyond a few Commander lists, we don't think Phenax will deceive standard constructed players to slide this in their stack of sixty.  Expect to see some of the folks at your local FNM using Phenax in a list with a lot of walls.  Should we pick up a few of these trading, we'll need to pick up a few singles from MTG Mint Card for a casual mill list we're thinking about.

Whelming Wave, 2uu
Sorcery, Rare
Return all creatures to their owners' hands except for Krakens, Leviathans, Octopuses and Serpents.

Mothersite preview.  Do not get hung up too much on 'octopuses' - we were surprised as Born of the Gods is a greek mythology themed set, WotC would have used octopi.  Righto - suggested serving for this is seafood buffet EDH.  Pair with Worldwake's Quest for Ula's Temple and start rolling around in all that sea critter theme.  Standard control could benefit perhaps from this quasi-board wipe.

Hero of Leina Tower, g
Creature — Human Warrior, Rare
Heroic — Whenever you cast a spell that targets Hero of Leina Tower, you may pay {X}. If you do, put X +1/+1 counters on Hero of Leina Tower.
1/1

Mothersite preview.  Most definitely next leve Heroic tech here and we fully expect to see a GW Heroics list coming out of the gate soon after the release.  We very much appreciate that this can be a mana sink late game and not a dead or useless card when it drops.

Some other non-rares to hit the interwebz today -

Vanguard of Brimaz - ManaDeprived Preview.  Be sure to check out the Durdling Around installation Dave made as well as the discussion from the MD crew.  We are really loving this uncommon - a lot.

Spiteful Returned - Wizards EU preview.  Nice two-drop bestow able to throw damage directly at an opponent.
