Speed vs Cunning Leak

~
Happy Monday MTG peeps,

We trust all had a great weekend.  While a number of you may have been at a Friday Night Magic event, there was a rather interesting Magic: the Gathering spoiler for the upcoming Duel Decks: Speed vs. Cunning product.  Allegedly, it appears that the decklist of this Duel Deck to be released on September 5, 2014 was loaded on the mothersite on Friday and then promptly removed.  Not before forum user Darlkind was able to copy down the contents of this Duel Decks: Speed vs. Cunning card list.  The theme of this duel deck is essentially a matched aspect of two of the Khans of Tarkir - The swiftness of The Mardu Horde symbolized by the wing of the dragon and the cunning of The Jeskai Way symbolized by the eye of the dragon.

Anywhoos, today over on the mothersite, the official decklists were posted and it looks like we now have all six new Khans of Tarikir cards spoiled for this Duel Decks -
Speed - Nomad Outpost, Mystic Monastery, Jeskai Elder
Cunning - Mardu Heart-Piercer, Zurgo Helmsmasher, Thousand Winds

Of interest - we now have the new 'Jeskai' mechanic - Prowess - Whenever you cast a noncreature spell, this creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn.  Also - we now have the two uncommon rarity lands - essentially tri-colored 'tap lands' each associated with the specific Tarkir Clans.

Speed
Creatures (22) : 1 Frenzied Goblin, 1 Infantry Veteran, 2 Leonin Snarecaster, 2 Dregscape Zombie, 1 Goblin Deathraiders, 1 Hellraiser Goblin, 1 Fleshbag Marauder, 1 Goblin Warchief, 1 Hell's Thunder, 1 Kathari Bomber, 1 Shambling Remains, 1 Mardu Heart-Piercer, 2 Beetleback Chief, 1 Krenko, Mob Boss, 1 Ogre Battledriver, 1 Flame-Kin Zealot, 1 Scourge Devil, 1 Zurgo Helmsmasher, 1 Oni of Wild Places
Non-creature spells (14) : 1 Reckless Abandon, 1 Shock, 1 Bone Splinters, 1 Arc Trail, 1 Goblin Bombardment, 2 Krenko's Command, 1 Act of Treason, 1 Dauntless Onslaught, 1 Orcish Cannonade, 2 Fiery Fall, 1 Fury of the Horde, 1 Banefire

The lists look to deliver some fun games for players and a number of cards of interest for collectors.  We will likely be picking this up from our local games store, OMG! Games & Collectibles here in Barrie, Ontario and perhaps score a few of the singles from MTG Mint Card.  To wrap up, here's that cool flavor text for this Duel Deck -

Racing across the blazing steppe, the wave of attackers crests the barren hills. Nothing can stop their reckless advance. These warriors live fast, fight hard, and strike terror into the hearts of those in their path. The scarred countryside seems abandoned. Then, suddenly, hidden fighters spring from ambush. The overconfident enemy recoils in surprise, outflanked and outsmarted. Who will prevail, the swift or the sly?

Tumblr Thursday

~
Happy Thursday MTG peeps,

We here at MTG Realm are looking forward to the upcoming Friday Night Magic event at OMG! Games tomorrow night - why you ask ?  Well funny you should ask - one of the local players (good guy Johnny Bremner) found a rather critical card we were looking for and we think it will make all the difference in the world how smoothly our standard format deck will now play - we'll give ya an update early next week.  Anywhoos, with our recent orders from MTG Mint Card and Johnny's contribution, we feel confident in hitting the Top 8 with relative ease.

As we're spending the evening getting a feeling how our new monster is working, we wont' be writing a high-brow article on Magic: the Gathering but rather defer to our sister site, MTG Realm on Tumblr to deliver the fun - let's go !

DD Speed vs. Cunning

~
Happy Thursday MTG peeps,

Yesterday was pretty busy on the mothersite.  Along with that very awesome Planeswalker's Guide to Journey to Nyx and the stunning illustrations / card art previews 'n' storyline was another product announcement in the Magic Arcana section - the next Duel Decks product.

Duel Decks are a series of theme decks that started in 2007 with Elves vs. Goblins. They contain two 60-card decks designed and developed specifically to be played against each other by two people.

Deck Design and Deck Development: Chris Millar and Sam Stoddard
Official Three-Letter Code: DDN
Twitter Hashtag: #MTGSVC
Languages Available: English, Japanese
Release Date: September 5, 2014
Magic Online Release Date: October 6, 2014
MSRP: $19.99

WotC staffer TJ also provided this important note - For those of you curious about the DDN three-letter code, we give Duel Decks a three-letter code of DD + an incrementing letter of the English alphabet (regardless of deck name.) The previous Duel Deck, Duel Decks: Jace vs. Vraska, was officially DDM, and the next Duel Deck will be DDO..  The Speed vs. Cunning will be the first Duel Decks released with Magic's new card frames, so the "DDN" three-letter code will be printed in the lower left of each card in the deck.

There was also some flavor provided -

Racing across the blazing steppe, the wave of attackers crests the barren hills. Nothing can stop their reckless advance. These warriors live fast, fight hard, and strike terror into the hearts of those in their path. The scarred countryside seems abandoned. Then, suddenly, hidden fighters spring from ambush. The overconfident enemy recoils in surprise, outflanked and outsmarted. Who will prevail, the swift or the sly?
We seriously suspect several cards in this Duel Decks product to be part of the fall expansion set, which popular belief holds to be 'Warlords of Khanar' / 'Khans of Tarkir' / 'Dragons of Tarkir'.  The flavor text, just as the fall expansion names evoke a sense of a Mongolian warrior setting of sorts.  Most definitely looking forward to this.  We'll leave you off with a round-up of previous Duel Deck products -
