NPH Gateway Promos

Happy Wednesday MTG peeps,

We're certain you are busily reviewing and evaluating all the awesome New Phryexia cards and we will also get to that as well eventually but today we wanted to yatter about some very cool Gateway promos hitting your local gamery store soon. Make sure your store is part of the Wizards Play Network so you can score these.

First up :

Vault Skirge
Artifact Creature - Imp, Common
Flying, Lifelink

This is a very DECENT common - A 1/1 flying life-linker for two mana is solid - and a good choice in a sealed pool we think.

Next up -

Maul Splicer
Creature - Human Artificer, Common
When Maul Splicer enters the battlefield, put two 3/3 colorless Golem artifact creature tokens onto the battlefield.
Golem creatures you control have trample.

We are not entirely sold on the Splicer cycle yet in New Phyrexia. Blade Splicer really rocks, and the other splicers provide some good abilities for your Golem army but the green one just seems overpriced - but then again, this is a common and seven power over three creatures is OK - and certainly better when you provide your Golems with trample.

Anywhoos - as we yattered about above, stick around and we promise to get to some reviews of this excellent new set.

Zendikar Game Day !

Zendikar Game Day is coming on October 31st my Boils and Ghouls. For a location near you check out the link HERE. For those fanatical MTG players who could not quite get enough game on a set's pre-release or release event day, Wizards has brilliantly arranged a 'Game Day' which occurs approximately one month after the set's official release.

On Saturday, 31st October (yes - it's Halloween - ensure you are appropriately attired in your best spooky costume), converge on your local organiser's facility and you may be able to collect one of these Zendikar mtg promos . . .

It appears that soon-to-be-release Gateway promos were possibly released a titch to soon. One report indicates that the gateway promos were inadvertently directed to Alara Reborn Prereleases in Germany and mixed with the regular prerelease foils.

Unfortunately both cards are somewhat lackluster especially when compared with other previously released WPN promotional cards, both in the alternate art department and the actually cards themselves.

How you get your paws on a Promo ? ?

From the back of the DCI "participation kit sheet" . . .

"You may disseminate the magic promo cards to your players however you would like. The DCI recommends you use most of the promo cards to support magic league play to help maintain and grow your player base. Planeswalker achievements is another way for players to earn promo cards. Achievement instructions are on the back of this document. Another great way to use promo cards is to supplement your prize support for any magic tournament run at your location, like Friday night magic."

Marisi's Twinclaws, although not top shlef may be salvageable by adding additional ingredients into the stew . . .


Behemoth Sledge : This equipment provides a 4/6 Lifelink, Trample, Double-Striking nutter.

Colossal Might : This instant gives a 6/6 Trample double-hitter until turn's end.

Knight of New Alara : This creature provides a pump of 3 giving you a decent 5/7.

Looks like we can expect Blightning as the next Magic Players reward cards (sorry about the quality of the scan).
