Card Catch-Up 4-22

~
A Happy Thursday to all.

We thought we would pull a Crazy Ivan - stop, clear the baffles here at MTG Realm and take stock of what we have missed. To this end, we're dropping a hodgepodge of Magic the Gathering miscellany on your monitors. Grab your goggles and let's go.

First Up -

For those air travelers and Planeswalkers inconvenienced by the recent eruption and subsequent spew of tons of volcanic ash from Iceland, your suffering and pain has a name - Eyjafjallajökull. And it so happens, that this card is for you . .

And here is a card errata:
"Should you correctly pronounce the name, you may play this card without paying its mana cost".

Next -

As you may know from our previous post (HERE), the Rise of the Eldrazi Release foil promo (release is this weekend!) is Lord of Shatterskull Pass. What you might not know is what the Game Day (scheduled May 22) are.

Here is the scoop from Wizards : All participants receive a Staggershock promo card while the top 8 players each receive an exclusive Deathless Angel full-art promo card. If your game sucked eggs that day, don't worry, there is still a chance of getting one of two Deathless Angel promo cards which are to be awarded as door prizes at your participating local gamery store.

And Next . . . some serious catching up with Friday Night Magic Promos -

FNM Promo - March, 2010

Ancient Ziggurat
Land, Conflux Uncommon
: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool. Spend this mana only to cast creature spells.

FNM Promo - March, 2010

Bloodbraid Elf, 2

Creature — Elf Berserker, Alara Reborn Uncommon
Haste, Cascade (When you cast this spell, exile cards from the top of your library until you exile a nonland card that costs less. You may cast it without paying its mana cost. Put the exiled cards on the bottom in a random order.)
3 / 2

FNM Promo - May, 2010

Cloudpost
Land — Locus, Mirrodin Common
Cloudpost enters the battlefield tapped.
: Add 1 to your mana pool for each Locus on the battlefield.

~

And finally . . .

From waaaay back - actually in February at PTQ San Diego. A very special promo card was provided Wizards tournament organisers to members of that most awesome of television show, Robot Chicken, who had attended to sling cards.

~

OK folks, we think it's safe to go back in the pool now - be sure to drop by again real soon as we crack open some sealed Rise of the Eldrazi product.

Conflux Spoiler 18

~
Welcome to another post. We have 3 new Conflux card spoilers and each of these already has a card art associated with it - now this is the next best thing to an official Wizards spoiler.

Stick around after the spoiler and we'll have sneak peak at what FNM prize foils will be making their way to your local gaming store.

The details on this one are still unconfirmed but I like what I'm seeing so far.

Paragon of the Amesha, 2W
Creature - Human Knight - Uncommon
First Strike
WUBRG : Until end of turn, Paragon of the Amesha becomes an Angel, gets +3/+3 and gains flying and Lifelink.
2/2

Ancient Ziggurat
Land Uncommon
{T}: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool. This mana can only be used to play creature spells.

Reliquary Tower
Land Uncommon
You have no maximum hand size.
{T}: Add 1 to your mana pool.

Latter on, I will be working on ways to try and abuse this card in the game. Seriously, I have to find way to use Forced Fruition on my own hand.
Now is it me or does the card art have absolutely nothing to do with the card flavour itself ?

~
Straight to the first 5 months worth of 2009 FNM prize foils.
I'm not very impressed with the alternate art for Kitchen Finks or the Merrow Reejery card . . . :-(

January :
Magma Jet
(we already know this one . . . duh)

February :
Myr Enforcer

March :
Kitchen Finks

April :
Merrow Reejery

May :
Wren's Run Vanquisher

Thanks for stopping by, see ya next post.

2008 FNM Foils

~
Although I do rather enjoy playing MTG at home, I rather relish going out to Friday Night Magic to see how my deck stacks up against other players. I also am keenly interested in seeing other card synergies that I had not yet fully realised. One thing I do appreciate about FNM is the casual play style. More than once have I goofed up big-time by not being fully caffeinated and playing a second legendary creature. Since it is FNM, I simply get to say 'whoops!', or 'sorry', and safely return said card back to my hand.

I also enjoy getting a chance not only to build up my Magic Player Rewards points but also have an opportunity to get my hands on a FNM foil promotional card. That being said, I think I only brought home only two FNM DCI cards home with me this year so far (Tormod's Crypt and Pendelhaven) . . . waahh !

Four prize cards are provided by Wizards to the organizer for each event. Two of the four cards are to be awarded each week are available to anyone in the tournament; specifically the tournament organizer will randomly award the remaining two prize cards to two players that did not place first or second. The other two are awarded to the top finishers for 1st and 2nd place.

Here is a look at the 2008 FNM Foil goodness ->
