Fate Reforged Incoming

~
Happy Sunday MTG peeps,

We sincerely hope all have had a great Holiday so far - preferably spent with family, friends, and a few games of Magic: the Gathering.  As for us, we managed to play at least a few matches every day in between family functions.

As the end of 2014 is now in sight, we are looking very much forward to the release of the second set in the Khans of Tarkir block - Fate Reforged.  This is to be released on 23rd January 2015 which may seem quite some time yet in the future but we all know just how quickly this sort of thing does arrive.  Tomorrow (Monday 29th December), Wizards of the Coast will start official previews, which will lead into the PreRelease event and then the final release.  With 185 cards in Fate Reforged (10 Mythic Rares, 35 Rares, 60 Uncommon, 70 Common, and 10 Basic Lands), we've already decided to get the full 4-times deckset of each common / uncommon from MTG Mint Card and then plan to cherry pick a good number of the rares.

Anywhoos, for today's post we wanted to do one last post to summarize all known information so far for Fate Reforged before we get into 'spoiler season' tomorrow, so let's go.

Storyline

Sarkhan Vol travels 1000 years back in time, to change the moment that sealed Tarkir's fate: the battle between Nicol Bolas and Ugin, the demise of the latter and all dragons of Tarkir (Crux of Fate). The clans still exist back in the time; they are not fighting each other but are constantly fending off the legion hordes of dragons that are terrorizing their world. Sarkhan meets khans of the past, like Yasova Dragonclaw. The history of Tarkir is rewritten.

Characteristics

• A small set (185 cards), slightly larger than Born of the Gods (165 cards), Dark Ascension (158 cards) and Dragon’s Maze (156 cards)

• Bottom up designed to be drafted with both large sets of the block, while the large sets are never drafted together.

• Fate Reforged draft is one pack of Fate Reforged and then two packs of Khans of Tarkir.

• In booster packs, the basic land slot may contain nonbasic lands.

• Korean, Portuguese, Chinese (Traditional), and Russian boosters will also contain basic lands in this slot at a high frequency alongside nonbasic lands, as Fate Reforged basic lands will not otherwise be printed in those languages

• There are reprints of the ten common Khans of Tarkir. They will have new artwork and the Fate Reforged expansion symbol.

Boosters may also include Khans of Tarkir fetch lands, which will have the Khans of Tarkir expansion symbol.

• Sarkhan Vol travels 1000 years back in time, to change the moment that sealed Tarkir's fate: the battle between Nicol Bolas and Ugin

• The demise of Ugin and all dragons of Tarkir are undone.

• The clans still exist back in the time; they are not fighting each other but are constantly fending off the legion hordes of dragons that are terrorizing their world.

• Because the clans of Fate Reforged are less defined, the set does not contain three-color gold cards.

• The color identity of the cards is instead marked by the use of hybrid ability activation costs.

• Fate Reforged will be followed up by Dragons of Tarkir.
