Sorin, Lord of Innistrad

~
Happy Wednesday MTG peeps,

We here at MTG Realm are breaking with the traditional daily post nomenclature (Dark Ascension Spoiler 1, 2, 3, etc.) as today is a day of days (three mythic cards!) - Wizards of the Coast had previewed the much aniticipated Planeswalker variant for this, the second set in the Innistrad block - let's get immediately to this . . .
~

Sorin, Lord of Innistrad, 2
Planeswalker - Sorin, Mythic Rare

+1: Put a 1/1 black Vampire creature token with lifelink onto the battlefield.
-2: You get an emblem with "Creatures you control get +1/+0."
-6: Destroy up to 3 target creatures and/or other planeswalkers. Return each card put into a graveyard this way to the battlefield under your control.
Loyalty Counters : 3

Of note - as some Magic the Gathering players may have suspected - this Sorin is Black and White. If you are holding onto some Isolated Chapels (non-basic Innistrad land which taps for black and white) - do not trade them - we suspect that the current price of about $5 will be corrected upwards by retailers as this post goes live. The cost of 4 for a starting loyalty is decent. The first ability is sweet - hopefully you have a way to make this 1/1 Vampire token flying (Bloodline Keeper // Lord of Lineage) to effeciently block threats to Sorin. The second ability provides an emblem for the remainder of the game - a buff of +1/+0 is OK. The last ability is a bomb - removing threats and graveyard recusion is king. Price is expected to go above $55 but hopefully will come back down soon.

Falkenrath Aristocrat, 2
Creature - Vampire, Mythic Rare
Flying, haste
Sacrifice a creature: Falkenrath Aristocrat is indestructible this turn. If the sacrificed creature was a Human, put a +1/+1 counter on Falkenrath Aristocrat.
4/1

This card may not be the best choice in a constructed Vampire tribal build as players will want to be able to get counters on her - and you really would want to as the toughness is just 1. A buff by Lord of Lineage might work but is awkward. Still, flying and haste might get you there and the potential to make her indestructible is gravy. Certainly a good choice in a limited build.

Moonveil Dragon, 3
Creature - Dragon, Mythic Rare
Flying
{R}: Each creature you control gets +1/+0 until end of turn.
5/5

A 5/5 flyer for six really does not make us think this should occupy a mythic rare slot - even with it's Firebreathing ability to pump the power on your dudes. We are a bit surprised with a dragon being in a horror-themed block like Innistrad - we suspect that WoTC wanted to cater to the EDH / Commander crowd here.

Séance, 2
Enchantment, Rare
At the beginning of each upkeep, you may exile target creature card from your graveyard. If you do, put a token onto the batttlefield that's a copy of that card except it's a Spirit in addition to its other types. Exile it at the beginning of the next end step.

This indeed is a weird little enchantment - we're not sure exactly how this will help your game if the tokens generated does not have haste. You also ditch the token at the endstep unless you can Sundial of the Infinite. Perhaps there is something good to be found as 'enters the battlefield' enabler.

Other Dark Ascension cards revealed today (from various sources) include the following which we hope to provide some witless and inane commentary on in the very near future.

Say hello to - Loyal Cathar, Secrets of the Dead, Scorned Villager / Moonscarred Werewolf

Finally,

Start planning your Dark Ascension pre-orders while you contemplate new brews. We're looking at Sorin right now. We suggest you drop on over to MTG Mint Card who now have their Dark Ascension singles up.

  1. Sorin's price is going to have to go down, due to the fact when most walkers are pre ordered they tend to make the price go up and for the players whom really wanna play the game at a constructed level it's near impossible.
