Dark Ascension Spoiler 5

~
Happy Tuesday MTG peeps,

Welcome to day 2 of Dark Ascension preview week 1. In today's post, we'll cover off a few new cards from the latest Magic the Gathering set. As we might not get to them all, we suggest you drop in on our Dark Ascension Spoiler List which we will take pains to update continually for the next few weeks ahead of the set's release on February 3rd.

First up -

Drogskol Reaver, 5
Creature - Spirit, Mythic Rare
Flying, double strike, lifelink
Whenever you gain life, draw a card.
3/5

Depending upon what else may be in Dark Ascension, there may be a glimmer of hope for a life gain build. At the very least, one could tinker with a non-standard format and revisit a Soul Sisters / Suture Sisters strategy.

Increasing Devotion, 3

Sorcery, Rare
Put five 1/1 white Human creature tokens onto the battlefield. If Increasing Devotion was cast from a graveyard, put ten of those tokens onto the battlefield instead.
Flashback 7{W}{W}

There is a potential for 15 (fifteen) 1/1 dudes here for 14 mana which is kinda par for the course really.

Having said that, there still may be a place in standard constructed using Honor of the Pure and Intangible Virtue for a nice buff, or perhaps even a buff and trample effect for an alpha swing. Bonus - we now have the 1/1 White Human Token art !

Jar of Eyeballs, 3
Artifact - Rare
Whenever a creature you control dies, put two eyeball counters on Jar of Eyeballs.
3
, Remove all eyeball counters from Jar of Eyeballs: Look at the top X cards of your library where X is the number of eyeball counters removed this way. Put one of them into your hand and the rest on the bottom of your library in any order.

The card art here illustrated by Jaime Jones is rock solid. Unfortunately, this card previewed on MaRo's Tumblr account will make kids cry all over the world if they find it in the rare slot in a booster pack. Honestly - we think Shrine of Piercing Vision sucks less than this.
~

Ghoultree, 7
Creature - Zombie Treefolk, Rare
Ghoultree casts 1 less for each creature card in your graveyard.
10/10

Yep - this is a green fatty which promises to bring a beating. We've been flattened before with graveyard tech like Spider Spawning and we are very certain this will make a splash in standard.

Innistrad / Dark Ascension FLAVOUR segway -

Something of interest from artist Svetlin Velinov, who on his DeviantArt account had posted this . . .

Desperate Measures The shield of the main character is a mirror. In the world of Innistrad vampires can see their reflections in the mirrors, but they look twisted and disfigured, so in fact the vampires are scared by their own real nature. Something like Dorian Gray syndrome.

Finally,

Start planning your Dark Ascension pre-orders while you contemplate new brews (exactly what we are doing right now). We suggest you drop on over to MTG Mint Card who now have their Dark Ascension singles up.
