Shadows Over Innistrad Spoilers 3-16

~
Happy Wednesday MTG peeps,

It being Wednesday, we suggest that you join other Magic: the Gathering fans over on the mothersite and read the next installment of official Magic fiction - 'Unwelcome', by Kelly Digges.  Another great story featuring Planeswalkers Jace and Lili on Innistrad.  Kelly also provided the Shadows Over Innistrad set preview for this iteration of Jace.  Let's get to the previews for Wednesday 16th March !  Bonus - Wallpaper Wednesday also delivered the very lovely card illustration for Jace as well . . .

Jace, Unraveler of Secrets, 3UU
Planeswalker - Jace, Mythic Rare
+1: Scry 1, then draw a card
-2: Return target creature to its owner's hand
-8: You get an emblem with "Whenever an opponent casts his or her first spell each turn, counter that spell."
5

Mothersite preview.  Loyalty counters starting off at five for five mana.  Double blue in the cmc pushing the primary colour for your list here.  The +1 is a welcome scry & draw, while the next -2 is a good bounce of your opponents threat or perhaps to use for one of your own critters to encore a ETB effect.  The ultimate at -8 really messes up the game for your opponent and is a great inclusion for any control strategy.

Olivia, Mobilized for War, 1BR
Legendary Creature - Vampire Knight, Mythic Rare
Flying
Whenever another creature enters the battlefield under your control, you may discard a card. If you do, put a +1/+1 counter on that creature, it gains haste until end of turn, and it becomes a Vampire in addition to its other types.
3/3

Mothersite preview.  Weird card name, perhaps not the best Eric Deschamps art either.  Seems to be decent with this set's offering of vampires and madness so far.

~
Sigarda, Heron's Grace, 3GW
Legendary Creature - Angel, Mythic Rare
Flying
You and Humans you control have hexproof.
2, Exile a card from your graveyard: put a 1/1 white Human Soldier creature token onto the battlefield.
4/5

StarCityGames preview.  Dang! We are rather excited to see a human tribal list come out of this set and the new Sigarda goes a long way to push this.  Should we get a spell with pump for humans, we are definitely going for it.  Now considering a casual build with some of the better humans from the first Innistrad block.  As for storyline speculation, it looks like Siggy has not gone Avacyn-crazy with the rest of the angels and will support the human denizens on Innistrad.

Epiphany at the Drownyard, XU
Instant, Rare
Reveal the top X plus one cards of your library and separate them into two piles. An opponent chooses one of those piles. Put that pile into your hand and the rest into your graveyard.
"Is this what you found, Tamiyo?" -Jace Beleren

Top Level Podcast preview.  The art from Titus Lunter is rocking it - so much mystery.  With Dig Through Time rotating out of standard soon, some players may be giving serious consideration to this spell, somewhat reminiscent of Steam Augury / Fact or Fiction.

~
Harness the Storm, 2R
Enchantment, Rare
Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell from your hand, you may cast target card with the same name as that spell from your graveyard. (You still pay its costs.)
"There is no place like a rooftop laboratory in a lightning storm. It's where genius strikes." - Renna, Selhoff Alchemist

TJ preview.  Sounds OK (think RDW burn), but we think this way too conditional to get the mileage you want from the investment of 3 mana.  You need this out, already have one of your multiples in the yard, and have the mana open . . . nope.

Other cards out today -
Indulgent Artistocrat
Groundskeeper
Rise from the Tides
Breakneck Rider // Neck Breaker
