Innistrad Spoilers 5

~
Happy Wednesday MTG peeps,

We have six Innistrad previews to share with you in today's installment. As it seems that previews are hitting the inter-webs as fast as a Volcano Imp wearing Lightning Greaves, we are only reporting newly spoiled or previewed rares and mythic rares. If you want to catch up on all the new Magic the Gathering sweetness, we have for you our constantly updated Innistrad Spoiler List HERE.

Let's get down to business . . .

Blasphemous Act, 8
Sorcery, Rare
Blasphemous Act costs 1 less to cast for each creature on the battlefield.
Blasphemous Act deals 13 damage to each creature.

Holy Mackinaw. This thing is disco inferno. We have yet again another reference in this set to that most inauspicious number thirteen. Slagstorm had done a very decent job of keep tokens in check but is serious overkill - thanks Wizards we like that about you.

Mirror-Mad Phantasm, 3
Creature - Spirit, Mythic Rare
Flying
1
: Mirror-Mad Phantasm's owner shuffles it into his or her library. If that player does, he or she reveals cards from the top of that library until a card named Mirror-Mad Phantasm is revealed. That player puts that card onto the battlefield and all other cards revealed this way into his or her graveyard.
5/1

Weirdness ensues after the activated ability on this creature is activated. Random self milling ahoy! This reeks of combo-rific awesomeness perhaps not in standard and it would be a death knell in limited but we think there may be a place for this in Commander. Personally, we want to see this broken in half with a dredge build.

Kessig Wolf Run
Land, Rare
: Add 1 to your mana pool.
X
, : Target creature gets +X/+0 and gains trample until end of turn.

We love lands that do cool things like this. As forum user 'taipan' stated, we want to do the Kessig Wolf run in under 12 parsecs - that or use this with a double-striking Terror of Kruin Pass werewolf. Rinse and repeat and you've got yourself a game win - just watch out for a Ghost Quarter.

Undead Alchemist, 3
Creature - Zombie, Rare
If a Zombie you control would deal combat damage to a player, instead that player puts that many cards from the top of his or her library into his or her graveyard.
Whenever a creature card is put into an opponent's graveyard from his or her library, exile that card and put a 2/2 black Zombie creature token onto the battlefield.
4/2

Seems like another of those 'auto-include' cards in a Commander Zombie build. As for limited and constructed, we don't think it will be popular but having said that, we love the casual game and will want to give it a try.

Champion of the Parish,
Creature - Human Soldier, Rare
Whenever another Human enters the battlefield under your control, put a +1/+1 counter on Champion of the Parish.
1/1

Rather reminiscent of those Zendikar Allies. We would be happy to pull this out of a pack any day and certainly want to play with this in a limited build over other one-drops such as Stromkirk Noble as the Champ promises to grow up fast, kick butt and take names.

Curse of Stalked Prey, 1
Enchantment - Aura Curse, Rare
Enchant player
Whenever a creature deals combat damage to enchanted player, put a +1/+1 counter on that creature.

This looks like a rather decent but we're hesitant about just how often the combat damage requirement would be satisfied - perhaps very excellent in a multi-player game but beyond that sticking this on an unblockable Invisible Stalker seems unimpressive.

Our friends over at MTG Mint Card is having yet another contest on their Facebook Page.

They are looking to give away to two lucky participants an Ajani vs. Nicol Bolas dueldeck.

This contest closes on the 18th of September, so don't wait too long to enter.

  1. Did you read the curse of stalked prey? its isn't enchanting a creature it enchants a player. If any creature damages that player the creature gets a +1/+1 much tastier than you indicate here ....
