Happy Thursday MTG peeps,
We are still another week out from official Innistrad previews on the mothership but we do have a very interesting spoiler to share. First, let's have a look at a recent image of the Innistrad prerelease poster which was placed on the FaceBook page of gaming store Parence.com . . .
Yep - art here features that new Garruk Planeswalker which Magic the Gathering players have been speculating over for quite some time. The important piece is the pre-release card to the lower left . . .
The card reads as follows -
Which, with translation reads as follows -
(Night) Howlpack Alpha
Creature - Werewolf (Rare)
Other Werewolf and Wolf creatures you control get +1/+1.
At the beginning of your upkeep, put a 2/2 green Wolf creature token onto the battlefield.
At the beginning of each upkeep, if a player cast at least two spells during the previous turn, sacrifice Howlpack Alpha.
3/3
Before we get to far ahead of ourselves, we should briefly review an image directed to retailers to encourage sales -
(Day) Mayor of Avabruck - 1G
Creature - Human Advisor Werewolf (Rare)
? Unknown text ?, (3/3)
1/1
~
Now for some silver bullets :
- We have word that Ryan Pancoast did illustrate both these arts.
- Mayor of Avabruck appears as 193A/264 while Howlpack Alpha reads as 193B/264.
- There are clear indications of Sun and Moon (or day and night) game mechanics.
- Howlpack Alpha does not appear to have a casting cost, we think that it enters the game when Mayor of Avabruck's abilities are activated or triggered.
Just wow.
That's a lot to take in and speculate on. Please remember that all this should still be considered rumour until official previews begin, but until that time, pipe in below with your speculations.

And now a word about jumping on this upcoming set - we're suggesting getting in your pre-orders ahead of the official release on September 30th next month. Check out the excellent prices at MTG Mint Card here.

I usually don't like half and half cards but this one seems pretty dang legit, fits the theme of the set as well as the fact we have it on a official poster from a game store somewhere in the world, i'd consider this one legitmate personally.
ReplyDeleteinteresting. If you look in the upper left corner of the first card there is a half moon, and in the upper left of the second card there is a sun. Day\night mechanic?
ReplyDelete"Transformez" is not "sacrifice".
ReplyDeletethis looks so amazing
ReplyDeleteThe window the Alpha is jumping out of appears to be the same shape/style as the one the advisor is sitting in front of. Synergy in art between cards is a nice touch and I am excited to get ahold of this set.
ReplyDeleteDid anyone notice the tiny little 3/3 > symbol on the Mayor? Right above it's P/T...see it now? yah! Might be a back of the card mech, although will make them unable to be played without sleeves. But still something to think about
ReplyDelete"Transformez" is not "sacrifice".
ReplyDeleteTransformez = Transform, not sacrifice
ReplyDeleteso yes this is a "dual" card
thtas not what howlpack alpha reads...you dont sacrifice it you transform it... http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=123077&d=1314499061
ReplyDeleteand yeah i'm loving the transform ability. mayor and alpha are the same person ^_^
