Happy Monday MTG folks,
Now that the official previews for for the next Magic the Gathering Core set, Magic 2012, has finally started, players will be glued to the interwebs and in a state of hieghtened frenzy to evaluate each new card and determine its merit in each game format.
Today's post includes FIVE new cards which we will now have a look at. Please make sure you check back often on our M12 Spoiler list as we continually update. Anywhoos, let's go -
~
Worldslayer, 5
Artifact - Equipment, Rare
Whenever equipped creature deals combat damage to a player, destroy all permanents other then Worldslayer.
Equip 5
"If that is what you seek, try looking in craters." -Fodrus, mastersmith
Illus. Greg Staples #222/249
Perhaps yet another reason why Stoneforge Mystic had to get the ban-hammer. This little number is neato flavour but kinda skinny on play-ability - really now - the only thing we see in constructed for this is a one-of in a 'Quest' deck. That said - this could be huge fun equipped with an indestructible creature and we think that there may be no recovering from this after everything gets blown up (including lands by-the-way).
~
Scrambleverse, 6
Sorcery, Rare
For each nonland permanent, choose a player at random. Then each player gains control of each permanent for which he or she was chosen. Untap those permanents.
Sometimes a little chaos is in order.
Illus. Dan Scott #153/249
Pretty much the last card you want to see in a booster pack - only sad panda time in this piece of jank - BUT - dang - we have a feeling that this card will be making a big splash Commander (perhaps in a deck running Zedruu, the Greathearted ?).

Skinshifter, 1
Creature - Human Shaman Rare
: Choose one - Until end of turn, Skinshifter becomes a 4/4 Rhino and gains trample; or until end of turn, Skinshifter becomes a 2/2 Bird and gains flying; or until end of turn, Skinshifter becomes a 0/8 Plant. Activate this ability only once each turn.
1/1
Illus. Matt Stewart #195/249
This is the new green morph critter and what a swiss knife utility he brings to the table - a trampling 4/4 Rhino, 2/2 Bird or 0/8 Plant - not bad at all for the cost. Now remember - you can only activate its ability once per turn so you really are stuck which what you had just made - so choose wisely. When evaluating this card, one can almost just call it a 4/8 for just two - not bad - next time you have an opportunity to snag this in limited, chances are you will do very well.
~
Primordial Hydra, X
Creature - Hydra, Mythic Rare
Primordial Hydra enters the battlefield with X +1/+1 counters on it.
At the beginning of your upkeep, double the number of +1/+1 counters on Primordial Hydra.
Primordial Hydra has trample as long as it has ten or more +1/+1 counters on it.
0/0
Illus. Aleksi Briclot
Look in the phonebook for Fatty McFatster and you will see this monster. Set to grow at an incredible rate, if not responded to quickly, this could really wreck your side of the board. The only thing that would make this over the top is a Doubling Season and perhaps trample. Previous attempts by Wizards to produce a Mythic Hydra were all kinda meh - time will tell if this thing will fizzle or sizzle in standard and we think the latter.
~
Vengeful Pharaoh, 2
Creature - Zombie, Rare
Deathtouch
Whenever combat damage is dealt to your or a planeswalker you control, if Vengeful Pharaoh is in your graveyard, destroy target attacking creature, then put Vengeful Pharaoh on top of your library.
5/4
Illus. Igor Kieryluk #116/249
This may be yet another clue that Wizards is setting up a theme in Innistrad - that theme revolves around the player's graveyard. Most kids (the Adam's family excepted) were always taught that it was not polite to play in the graveyard - this may be set to change with the next set and block. We suggest that being able to top this thing in most situations would not be a bad thing at all.
