Mirrodin Besiged Booster Pack

~
Happy Caturday MTG peeps,

Yes, it is late Saturday evening and as we have no social life and no budget to enjoy one, we scour the webs for lulz and troll several Magic the Gathering forums. Apparently we have to put a stop to this as Wizards has produced the last Troll (goes by the name of Thrun), so no more trolling.

Anywhoos, players everywhere (at the least the spoiler nutters who follow this blog) will be happy to see several new cards tonight - nothing epic but what was epic was these helped fill in some blanks.

Many thanks go out to forum member MBSfuturedrafter (we're thinking a reference to a game here) who has very large cajones and opened up a Mirrodin Besieged booster pack for all to see. Let's have a look -

Myr Turbine 5
Artifact (rare)
T: Put a 1/1 colorless Myr artifact creature token onto the battlefield.
T, tap 5 untapped Myr creatures you control: Search your library for a Myr creature card, put it onto the battlefield, then shuffle your library.

Wow. This could be pretty good but you would either have to ramp to get to this or use Myr Reservoir to be ahead of the game. Nice card - we will probably pick it up for some casual mtg fun.

Praetor's Counsel, ?
Sorcery, Mythic Rare
Return all cards from your graveyard to your hand. Exile Praetor's Counsel. You have no maximum hand size for the rest of the game.

We don not have the cost for this card from
MBSfuturedrafter but the name and number crunch suggests either 4ggg or 5ggg. Even with a converted mana cost of either 7 or 8 and being saddled with a heavy green deck, this card will be nuts. Not sure how much play it will get but someone somewhere will construct something epic with this bad boy.

Training Drone, 3
Artifact Creature - Drone, Uncommon
Training Drone can't attack or block unless it's equipped.
4/4

Very situational but if you're running a crazy deck full of equipment, you will certainly want this guy on the team. We don't think players will pick this up for standard constructed.

Blightwidow, 3g
Creature - Spider
Reach, infect
2/4

This critter has a decent body for infect and we think most players would think twice about smashing in for an attack which would leave a dent on their titan.
~

Ardent Recruit, w
Creature - Human Soldier, Common
Metalcraft - Ardent Recruit gets +2/+2 as long as you control three or more artifacts.
1/1

This is a very solid one drop for any deck running a metalcraft theme. As a common, we say not bad and can only imagine good things with this card in a limited tournament.

Skinwing, 4
Artifact - Equipment, Uncommon
Living weapon (When this Equipment enters the battlefield, put a 0/0 black Germ creature token onto the battlefield, then attach this to it.)
Equipped creature gets +2/+2 and has flying.
Equip 4

This is an OK card - any player would be OK to get this in a sealed pool - a 2/2 flier for four means evasion and some decent hits with it. As for constructed, its kinda meh - there's better cards out there.

Phyrexian Digester, 3
Artifact Creature - Construct, Common
Infect
2/1

Dang. This is pretty nasty. If you had three mana to burn, use it on a burn spell instead. It will never get played constructed and will be a low draft pick.
~

Divine Offering, 1w
Instant, Common
Destroy target artifact. You gain life equal to its converted mana cost.
(This is a Fifth Edition reprint)

Blowing up artifacts is decent in this set. Gaining life while executing this spell is a good dollop of awesome sauce. We like this common and expect to see it in play quite a bit.

Oculus 1u
Creature - Homunculus
When Oculus is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, you may draw a card.

Not that bad - probably decent in limited where card draw can really be your best friend. We usually like Homunucli (just because of the name) and will not make an exception here.

There are a few other cards which are obscured but spoiler scientist are working on getting details of those as we speak. Details forthcoming for Quilled Slagworm and Shriekhorn.
