Friday MTG Potpourri

~
Happy Friday MTG peeps,

We had (very unfortunately) not picked up cards and played a game since way before Christmas but thankfully, last evening we did some playtesting with that infect deck we had scrapped together some time ago.

We have now moved Canopy Cover as well as Vines of the Vastwood and it appeared to play a lot better. We will post that Poison deck list latter on after we take it for a spin at Friday Night Magic tonight. Until then, here's some eye candy and some very cool MTG card alterations for Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon . . .

You may recall our post several weeks ago where we had spoiled the Mirrodin Besieged Intro Packs - well thanks to forum member
Centucky Fried Faerie we now have the proper names of those Packs.

This may certainly help with prognostication of the potential themes to the decks. Names are as follows ->

Battle Cries (
w/r)
Obviously a theme incorporating the new Mirran 'Battlecry' mechanic.

Doom Machine (
u/b)
Quite possibly a theme using the Phyrexian mirrored mechanic to Battlecry.

Mirromancy (
u/r)
We're thinking a possible use of the imprint tech here.

Path of Blight (
g/w)

Certainly a reference to the poison mechanic (?).

Finally a word with regards to the top ten selling cards from December. This list, from MTG Mint Card may provide clues as to where the meta-game may evolve to.

1. Koth of the Hammer
2. Blackcleave Cliffs
3. Copperline Gorge
4. Seachrome Coast
5. Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon
6. Ezuri, Renegade Leader
7. Elspeth Tirel
8. Sword of Body and Mind
9. Molten-Tail Masticore
10. Mox Opal

  1. This sounds pretty logically in your assumptions of all four of these precon decks so far, but perhaps when the fifth one is spoiled you would add that speculation on of course when we learn the name of the fifth precon deck that is, other then that i think it's pretty spot on for the four known ones so far.

  2. There are only going to be four. If there were five, the balance of phyrexia and mirrodin would be off, so they have one less so it can be 2v2.
