SoM Spoilers 9-20

~
Happy Monday to all,

The newest Magic the Gathering set is due to hit game tables in this weekend's PreRelease. Some game stores will be running tournament events Friday at midnight as well as both Saturday and Sunday so there really is plenty of opportunity to get your butt out to one. To prepare for the PreRelease, we suggest you read Tim Willoughby's article, Scars of Mirrodin Prerelease Primer, over at Wizards where he provides solid advice for what to expect this weekend.

~

As spoilers and previews are wrapping up quuickly (we are currently sitting at 163 of 249 cards at time of post), be sure to check out our Scars of Mirrodin Spoiler list which is constantly updated - linky is HERE. Also - from MTG Mint Card you can now pre-order card lots for Scars of Mirrodin.

Anywhoos - let's have a look at today's previews and spoilers . . .

Liquidmetal Coating, 2
Artifact, Uncommon
: Target permanent becomes an artifact in addition to all its other types until the end of turn.

Very nice. This will help you along if you need to get a trigger for the new metalcraft ability (As long as you control three or more artifacts, something cool will happen). This thing can also help you out with spot removal - imagine your opponent just dropped a bombtastic fatty, you give it an artifact type with this card and use Nature's Claim or Naturalize or several other destroy artifact cards to blow that shizzle up - not too shabby.

Grafted Exoskeleton, 4
Artifact – Equipment, Uncommon
Equipped creature gets +2/+2 and has infect.
Whenever Grafted Exoskeleton becomes unattached from a permanent, sacrifice that permanent.
Equip {2}

Do not look at the mana cost just yet but rather imagine using Stoneforge Mystic to pull this out of your library and then drop this on Cunning Sparkmage (or perhaps the new SoM Spikeshot Elder) . . . yep - now you're cooking with a hasty 2/3 which can fling poison counters at your opponent or -1/-1 (wither) counters at critters. That and you can rinse and repeat the process. We think that this may be worthy of casual constructed.

Asceticism, 3
Enchantment, Rare
Creatures you control can't be the target of spells or abilities your opponents control.
1
: Regenerate target creature.

We punked more Jund and mono-red burn decks than we can remember using Mark of Asylum. That card was great. This card is event better. Imagine using Asceticism along with Leyline of Sanctity. That pretty much locks out half the decks you might be facing. Bonus feature here is having the ability to regenerate any or all of your creatures depending upon how much mana you may have out.

That's it for right now but we hope to get some extra time to write up Inexorable Tide, Argent Sphinx and Withstand Death latter on.

  1. Holy crap! Liquidmetal Coating + Aura Shards = Every Creature you play comes with a free Vindicate. That is awesome.

  2. That's only valid for each time you can tap Liquidmetal Coating in response of your creature entering the battlefield.
So only 1 vindicate per coat ;-)

But nevertheless it's a nice combo!
