FNM RoundUp 1-15

~
Hello again wise and generous blog MTG Realm fans. Today we need your assistance with yet another casual standard constructed deck.

As our local meta-game dictates, one has to either play Jund or play something that is able to win against Jund. To this end, we put together a modified 'Spreading Seas' deck to disrupt the opponent's mana base. Just in case we went up against someone not playing Jund, we included a deckset of Convincing Mirage and a bunch of other stuff like additional Journey to Nowhere, Pacifism, etc., we thought was good at the time.

4 x Spreading Seas
3 x Into the Roil
4 x Path to Exile
2 x Pacifism
2 x Journey to Nowhere
2 x Luminarch Ascension
4 x Oblivion Ring
3 x Mesa Enchantress
4 x Wall of Denial
4 x Sigil of the Empty Throne
2 x Sphinx of Jwar Isle
1 x Sphinx of Lost Truths
1 x Open the Vaults

4 x Seaside Citadel
4 x Terramorphic Expanse
8 x Island
8 x Plains

Match One : Realm Razer
Game One - Totally creamed my oponent by denying him the right coloured mana he needed.
Game Two - Crappy Draws, lost tempo and lost game.
Game Three - A very close game - it all came down to one turn really.

Match Two : Red Burn
Game One - whaa happened ?! - dead before I knew it.
Game Two - Repeat of Game One but this time with more pain - thanks - we hurt all over.

Match Three : Blue Control
Game One - Easily won with a half-dozen Angle tokens out.
Game Two - Another easy win - more Angel token goodness.

Anywhoos, we think that we may be on the right track but just need to get this thing tweaked a bit more - so - help us out and drop in a comment please.

  1. Hey there, randomly saw your tweet *shrug*

    I'd try:

    Ardent Plea

    ior ruin expedition

    sunspring expedition

Just looked at all blue and white in standard quickly and dropped some thoughts for you :)

  2. You can try Angelsong and Wall of Denial for a Fog effect. I personally love using a Lavaball trap. Here are two different decklists that I use in case you want to try them out.

    3 Ajani Vengeant
    4 Angelsong
    4 Day of Judgement
    1 Earthquake
    4 Font of Mythos
    4 Howling Mine
    2 Martial Coup
    4 Path to Exile
    4 Runeflare Trap
    4 Safe Passage
    2 Sunspring Expedition
    4 Arid Mesa
    4 Kabira Crossroads
    6 Mountain
    9 Plains
    Sideboard
    2 Sunspring Expedition
    1 Martial Coup
    4 Pyroclasm
    3 Elspeth, Knight-Errant
    3 Banefire
    1 Ajani Venjeant

    4 Runeflare Trap
    4 Lightning Bolt
    4 Pyroclasm
    4 Howling Mine
    4 Font of Mythos
    4 Ponder
    4 Unsummon
    4 Trapmaker's Snare
    2 Sleep
    3 Twincast
    9 Island
    5 Mountain
    3 Magosi, the Waterveil
    4 Scalding Tarn
    2 Reliquary Tower
    Sideboard:
    1 Sleep
    4 Swerve
    4 Flashfreeze
    3 Negate
    1 Whiplash Trap
    1 Mindbreak Trap
    1 Lavaball Trap

Both decks try draw cards and play a Runeflare Trap for Massive damage. The W/R Version is like a turbo fog deck while U/R is more of a permission deck. Both have their ups and downs, but both get the job done. Try them out if you like and see how you do!

  3. take out pacifism, enchantress, luminarchs into the SB, into the roils out, terramorphics, and citadels.

deft duelist and sunspring to stop burn shenanigans. these are killer.

storm caller's boon and ardent plea for CA and insane angels with sigil up.

    journey instead of path.

ponders to set up silly cascades and fix mana.

2 kor skyfishers to pick up any enchantment to replay, i like it better then roil.

honor of the pure to help skyfishers, walls, and deft duelists which sometimes wins the games by themselves. helps angels and pretty much everyone except jwar jwar (he's insane without +1/+1 boosts anyway)

shouldn't really need open the vaults because no one really plays planar cleansing or enchantment-specific sweepers at all.

enchantress and lost truths sphinx soak up all the removal in your opponents hand he's itching to play so that's why i don't like them.

you said you played convincing mirages but i dont see them in the list. gotta have em.

and 1 or 2 day of judgment.

    also, where's the glacial fortresses?

good luck, i made this deck for my brother a couple of weeks ago, he's been 2-2, 3-1, and 3-1 so far and our meta is extremely diverse so i'm pretty happy with the results and it always gets a crowd to watch the cascading angels pooping out all over the table.

  4. I think something needs to be done for match ups against Bloodwitch?
Bouncing wont work if you want to keep losing life.
and it is certainly possible to not have sphinx out to save you.. and even if you do you can't protect it from a tendrills or DB :/

  5. In round one you don't really make it clear who won game 3. :-/

  6. mind control or paralyzing grasp fits in fine in a sigil deck to deal with bloodwitch.
