Some sad news today that I first caught wind of over at 'The Starkington Post'. In the post, Bill Stark refers to an article on WCPO news about a vehicular accident involving Magic: The Gathering players in Cincinnati. Here are some images taken by Eric Clajus of WCPO news.
A brief article as covered by the Cincinnati Enquirer . . .
Crash injures three Scatters collectible cards By Jennifer Baker • jbaker@enquirer.com • August 4, 2009
MT. AIRY – Four men were injured overnight in a two-vehicle accident in the 1700 block of West Fork Road, Cincinnati police said. Advertisement One of the motorists, Kenneth Jackson, was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, police said. His age and address were not released.
Officers asked Jackson to take a test to measure his blood alcohol level after his vehicle struck a car trying to pull into a driveway about 11:50 p.m., police said.
Three men inside the car Jackson struck became trapped and had to be extricated by rescue workers. The victims and Jackson were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
Oddly, hundreds of collectible trading cards were scattered on the road after the crash. It wasn't clear where the cards came from or what kind they are, police said.

I am over 40 years old now and have been of 'legal' drinking age for quite some time. I enjoy going out to the local games club every Friday night where appropriately NO alcohol is served. I just don't think you need alcohol - perhaps a power drink or a Jones Soda or something with huge levels of caffeine. I should think it one of the positive things about going to a games store and not over to a friend's house, that is unless you plan to crash there should you imbibe.
Having said that, I do rather enjoy coming back home and celebrating my victories at the games table (or more-often lamenting my defeats) with a cold one in the comfort and safety of my own home.
I'm just glad Kenny Jackson and his friends were not more seriously injured.
So... Many... Cards!!!! :-(
ReplyDeleteGood to hear the kids are alright, though. Drunk driving = foolish.
I don't think it's Kenny Jackson and friends. Rather, Jackson appears to have broadsided a car full of gamers while driving drunk all on his own.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad they didn't suffer irreparable damage. The scattering of the cards reminds me of when I was in a car crash. My trunk full of returnable cans (if you're not familiar with this, it's chiefly a Michigan thing where by law stores must charge deposit on some bottles and cans which can later be returned for a refund of 10 cents per container) scattered all over the road when my car was struck by another vehicle. Sadly, Magic cards are much more valuable than beer cans.
