ARB Spoiler 11

~
Wow - Two more Alara Reborn spoilers for you . . . Happy Saturday morning all !

Psychatrog got a surprise yesterday at his Friday Night Magic event over at Superstars San Jose, California. He received a package from Wizards labeled "Do not open until FNM." What he found inside were six Alara Reborn cards, some chocolate gold coins (get it ? - 'gold') and a note from Wizards saying, basically, "Your FNM location rules, here's this, enjoy." Five of the six cards had already been spoiled but one had not . . .

Ardent Plea, 1WU
Enchantment, Uncommon
Exalted, Cascade ((When you play this spell, remove cards from the top of your library until you remove a nonland card that costs less. You may play it without paying its mana cost. Put the removed cards on the bottom in a random order.)

Simple and elegant - when was fetching and playing a free card not cool ?
If you are lucky to draw Noble Hierarch on Turn 1, Ardent Plea can come down on Turn 2 and you can fetch cards such as Sigiled Paladin, Ethercase Knight, Qasali Pridemage, etc. My hope is that you can drag out a Meddling Mage to put up a roadblock for your opponent.

Finest Hour was spoiled over at the most excellent GeekDad website . . .

Finest Hour, 2GWU
Enchantment, Rare
Exalted
Whenever a creature you control attacks alone, if its the first combat phase of the turn, untap that creature. After this phase, there is an additional combat phase.

Again - if you can push this forward a turn with mana acceleration via Noble Hierach, this can cause no measure of grief for your opponent. The wise and learned hamtastic on the forums suggest you may take this course of action . . .

"Turn 1 Hierarch
Turn 2 War Monk
Turn 3 Rafiq (attack for 10 life link)
turn 4 Finest Hour attack with War Monk for 10, then 10 more... in case they have a blocker."

So very kewl . . . and a possible turn 4 win. Exalted decks just got nasty . . . like junk-yard dog nasty.

  1. Actually the first attack on turn 4 would be for 12 lifelink cause finest hour has exalted aswell. The second attack would actually be for 18 because exalted triggers whenever a creature attacks alone and lasts until end of turn. So since you are getting another combat phase all of the Exalted effects trigger again in the same turn resulting in Rhox War Monk being a 9/10 with double strike and lifeling on turn 4. All said and done thats attacking for 30 on turn 4!

  2. Play Finest Hour, then next turn, play the Bull Cerodon. Infinite attacks as long as it can handle the defense.

  3. No, you MUST untap attacking creature to get second combat phase, so it doesn't work with vigilence creatures with, and also it must be the FIRST combat phase to get second, so you cant have third via Finest Hour

  6. Actually, when the Rhox attacks (again), it should trigger Exalted again, so first attack it would be 6/7 double strike, second attack it should get another +3/+3 from exalted making it 9/10 double strike. Or something like that. Exalted bonuses are "until end of turn."
