Derpy History of Dominaria

~
Happy Thursday MTG peeps,

Here is MTG Realm’s Derpy TL/DR History of Dominaria summary.   Timeline may be questionable - please see Vorthos Jay for the real history.

Mythohistory : Over 10,000 Years Ago

Sole Denizens - Elder Dragons (maybe even Elder WURMS !), Primevals, and a trio of powerful Wizards known as the Numena, who all had long glorious beards.

Thran - Phyrexian War : 5,000 Years Ago

Thran technology using powerstones and artifice caused an illness to those exposed to long to this typed of radiation, and mutation into biomechanical horrors (Phyrexians).  These freaks are bannished to Mirrodin.

Antiquities War : 4,500 Years Ago

(AKA Brother’s War) Marked by the conflict between Urza and Mishra, which all started over an old Thran powerstone - or - this could be all about an incident which happened on the Antiques Roadshow.

Ice Age : 4,500 to 1,300 Years Ago

The Sylex Blast from the Brother’s War causes ecological havoc, and colder temperatures.  An Elf Planeswalker called Freyalise is frustrated over constantly wearing thermal under and casts a World Spell to warm things up again.

Modern History : 1,300 to 350 Years Ago

Urza founds the first Tolarian Academy which immediately becomes voted to become ‘most likely to be blown-up’.  Preparations made to defend against a future Phyrexian Invasion.

Phyrexian Invasion : 330 Years Ago

Absolutely devastating, but through the efforts of Urza, and the Legacy Weapon, Yawgmoth and the Phyrexians are defeated at great cost.  Dubstep and House Music become popular.

Rift Era : Until 60 Years Ago

On the continent of Otaria, a being called Karona (commonly confused with Corona which is a pale lager produced by Grupo Modelo), is inspired by Yawgmoth the evil, and promptly has an existential crisses. War erupts.

Mending Era : 60 Years Ago to Present

Eight major rifts in time had formed over the history of Dominaria due to its many conflicts (example the Sylex Blast).  Postal Service resumes, with Kevin Costner as being quoted “Stuff is getting better, stuff is getting better everyday”.  Kevin know little about the resurgence of the Cabal under the demon Belzenlok.

Nighthawk Counters

~
Happy Wednesday MTG peeps,

Today we want to talk about a new friend we've made at Nighthawk Counters but before we get into that, you should check out this article on the mothersite.  Writer Chas Andres provides some new items of information of shines a light on some glossed-over points from the Ixalan story.  There have been seven great stories delivered by the Wizards of the Coast Narrative team so far, and we are most definetely pumped when the story picks up again before the next set Rival of Ixalan is released.  Until that time, we can only generate conjecture about the politics of the nations of Ixalan and the potential budding romance between Jace / Vraksa or the unrequited fondness Angrath has for Hautli.

Back on track now -

Our new friend, Owner / Operator / Chief Imagineer at Nighthawk Counters who just happens to live not to far away from my home town (yeah, it’s a small world) is not only pretty damn handy but also a very fine designer.  The MTG Realm playgroup picked up a few pieces of his handicraft recently and have to say we love using these.

Some of the counters we had picked up include pieces featuring a lovely precision-cut metal tree, skull, sun-burst, iconic blue-mana symbol, and fire.  These not only look great but are handy / functional as they will easily fit within our deckbox to take to the local gaming store.  We are certainly looking forward to more unique and beautiful designs from Nighthawk Counters in the future and wish him all the very best in a KickStarter Project he has now launched to build the company brand.  Please do pop on over -

Amonkhet Art Dump

~
Happy Tuesday MTG peeps,

More Magic: the Gathering news updates over the last 24 hours.  Yesterday's post to the MTG Realm blog was titled 'Amonkhet Info Dump', so it is rather appropriate that we have now a number of absolutely stunning pieces of art to become part of the Amonkhet card illustrations or key art.

We direct your attention to a short video, posted in several different languages on the Magic: the Gathering YouTube Channel, which briefly goes over what one may expect at a Amonkhet Prerelease event and is prefaced with some nice details on the backstory / vorthos and a number of images.  We should get to those now -
